Ever heard of Raisin' Canes?? Had lunch there today in Daytona Beach. I bought the three tender Combo for $10.49.

I swear that it was the best chicken I've ever eaten at a fast food place. Comes with French Fries and soft drink. You get a small container of honey mustard to dip the chicken. Minimal breading and the chicken is juicy and tender. AND Hot.

My blood sugar was 113 when we went in and I gave everything time to get digesting and my sugar was 143 when I got home at 1:15 PM. That's incredible because I ate one of my wife's tenders. If you ever see one, you gotta try it.

I have heard of them, but my wife is a big Chick Fil A lover so we normally go there when she wants chicken. When I want chicken I prefer Publix

I prefer Popeyes for chicken Chick-fil-A for chicken sandwiches. It has been so long since I was at Bojangles, I can’t rate them.

Here's why I tie them together:

  1. If people were smart enough to demand healthy food and smart enough to realize it costs more, and pay for it - then the greedy wouldn't be making food as cheaply as possible
  2. If the food was actually healthy there would be less need for misleading labels
  3. There's a perception that eating healthy costs a lot, but buying more healthy ingredients and less processed junk can reduce that burden substantially.
Here's why they are separate problems:

1) Emulsifiers serve a purpose. They improve the texture, the feel of the product in your mouth. A creamier/smoother/richer/fresher sensation when you are eating that people want.
2) Preservatives serve a purpose. Farm/factory to warehouse to distribution to store to pantry. not everyone can do farm to pantry.
3) Dyes a similar purpose to emulsifiers, improving the visual appeal of the product. People want this whether they know it or not.
4) The vast majority of people live in cities and mass produced food that is ready to eat is big business. There is absolutely no way that individual farmers could sell their wares on a person to person basis and feed everyone. The logistics are just not there.
5) Education....some people just cannot comprehend the difference between chronic and acute nor understand that if I eat this for 20 years I will be sick. Fuck off, I just ate it and I feel great...
6) Eating healthy can and does cost more. An organic label adds cost, especially if it comes from someone, be it farmer or factory, that is putting in actual effort to adhere to the supposed rules to qualify as Organic. Seed sellers charge more for Non GMO seeds and those crops take more effort to raise successfully.

7) Requiring...or needing big business to fulfill the need to supply food is one thing. Greed and corruption to add infiltrate/petition/control the government to allow decidedly unhealthy ingredients is yet another. The food pyramid, HFCS, Margarine (One molecule away from plastic) Soy. Case in point, Coke only sells original cane sugar Coke in Hawaii because they have sugar fields there and the state prohibits HFCS use. Look at Coke in the ethnic food section of your local Publix/Kroger. It'll be under Mexican. People don't "want" HFCS like they do emulsifiers or dyes, because they can't see or feel a difference...although it does taste better...they are forced to consume it.

They can't. They are spending money they really don't have. But they've been trained that they are entitled to treat themselves and trained that's the way to do it.

I'm referring to people lacking financial resources as a whole and not specifically a size, race or gender.
That's because the schools teach a woke curriculum versus a class or two in financial well being.

Had a conversation with the husband of a coworker when he came in last Friday to take his wife out to lunch. Wang, as we call him, is retired but works part time a an auto parts store delivering parts. The rest of the staff is youngsters. The youngsters all come in everyday with two Dutch Bros drinks everyday. Dutch Bros is right across the street. They also come in with a couple Monsters or Red Bulls. Fat bastards can't move because they don't have the energy. Subway is next door and they Door Dash lunch and pay the extra delivery and tip. It's Next Fucking Door!!

We have had one in town here for about 6 months. I haven't been yet. I'll give it a try If I am ever in a fast food need/pinch.

As an aside.......................Watching Fox News yesterday and had a "Holy Shit!!!" moment.

General Foods, Kraft Heinz and several others formally announced that by the end of 2027, they will no longer have any artificial dyes in any of their food. Kraft also said that they are eliminating corn syrup from their products. The common dye will be beet juice.

Shake n Steak is also eliminating all corn syrup in all products sold and have informed all suppliers that they must eliminate it or they will no longer purchase their products.

First thing positive for Secretary of Health Kennedy.

Another interesting research study just completed. Harvard Medical, Stanford Medical and Columbia Medical have just completed a three year study with overweight diabetics. Turmeric with Curcumin actually activates the body's metabolism and helps burn fat cells. According to the study, people lost as much as 25% of total body weight without exercise or changing their eating habits. Considering that you can buy a bottle of 3000 mg of the stuff at Walmart for under $20, you know that it will be getting harder and harder to find.

I read that yesterday about Kraft/Heinz. Just fantastic news.

I have been reading a lot about Turmeric lately and not only the fat burning aspects but also anti inflammatory properties. What most people do not realize is how much sugar effect the inflammatory response. Arthritis, gut health...many of todays ailments are the bodies response to too much sugar that is then masked by drugs to treat the symptom rather than treating the cause and just reducing sugar intake.

Also, too much turmeric can be bad for the liver. watching the dosage as well as the quality can be crucial.

Well that will likely kill off the Baby Boomers of which I am one. We have been ingesting poison so long now going healthy is bound to put us in the grave

Turmeric is grown in Japan. They use it once a year to "cleanse their liver."
Studies have shown that eating turmeric every day can cause liver problems, among others.

Why doo Americans find something that other cultures use effectively and then use it in a different manner??????

I'm going to respond very generally - knowing that you already get this.
Some emulsifiers are perfectly healthy - even beneficial!
Some preservatives are natural.
Some dyes are healthy and some even beneficial
Education? This is the USA. We teach about sex change and how to wear a rubber....
Eating healthy absolutely costs more - and might not be healthier!
Some healthy foods are not healthy for you - especially i improperly used. Eating soy instead of meat is supposed to be healthy but eating too much soy can cause hormone problems, etc.

Eating healthy is trendy. Eating trendy is usually unhealthy!

Why doo Americans find something that other cultures use effectively and then use it in a different manner??????
Because we don't do proper research on natural substances. When someone finds something good, companies immediately overdose the hell out of it. If 1/2 ounce a day is good, 1 ounce must be very good, 10 ounces in a corn syrup flavored drink must be sensational.

When a small Massachusetts company started to study East Africans because they never had heart attacks, they found that everyone was eating leaves picked off a very specific tree. The women chopped it and used it in their daily recipes. They found that it was a natural cleaner of the blood and kept the circulatory system running better than a Swiss watch. They also discovered that everyone was having regular sex, even people in their nineties. Lo and behold!!! Fuck the good it does for the heart, this stuff will sell for hundreds of dollars a pill because it will eliminate erectile disfunction. VIAGRA was discovered. They found that Americans would never eat the leaves as a part of their regular diet and kicked the heart benefits to the curb instead of finding a way to incorporate it into something that could be a partial benefit either as a pill or even an injectable substance. Now you know the rest of the story.......................

Maybe Americans are following Indians instead? I'm pretty sure they ingest it more.

Japanese often live to be 100. Their diet is part of it.
They eat cabbage almost every day - even multiple meals.
Americans found that Brassicas (cabbage, etc.) can provide many health benefits and even prevent cancer.
Americans started eating more brassicas - and it did not help much.
As it happens, Japanese eat a lot of seaweed, which provides magnesium.
Americans eat the brassicas without the magnesium.
It turns out that eating brassicas without magnesium, causes a different chemical reaction in the body and causes cancer!

I wonder if it matter the type of magnesium or the source of the magnesium...

Does a specific type of magnesium supplement do the trick? Or only eating seaweed?

Seaweed contains magnesium in various forms, primarily as magnesium hydroxide and forms like magnesium chloride and magnesium sulfate

It's not always about what, and sometimes about why. If an emulsifyer is healthy and is in food it shouldn't be the healthiest part of the food, or the reason we think the food is something it's not. Should chicken need emulsification to become a nugget? Should we call sugar water that's been frozen with an emulsifier and powdered milk a "dairy desert, then package it to look like ice cream?

I don't live in a world of absolutes but instead one that considers reasonability. An emulsifyer is fine to make a low saturated fat version of ice cream, not to turn scraps meant for cat food into a chicken nugget.

That's the thing... You just can't assume a cause and effect then just isolate a portion. Maybe the body needs an exact nutrient order to properly assimilate magnesium? Maybe it needs to be chewed a certain way to get the right saliva ration.

Exactly my point as to why additives and corporate greed are separate problems!
