Pagan and Torres are basically the same player, imo. Not sure why Ramirez was thrown-in?

Pagan is three years younger and has a much larger body of ML work. The attraction for the Mutts was RamRam -- Torres was the "throw in."

Keith Law will be destroying this trade in 5...

Pagan had 478 ABs last year...Nate had a great turnaround before getting injured...Belt has to play, as does Cabrera. It will be interesting to see how Boch keeps everyone happy. Or could Nate be on the move?

One more: loved Torres and wish him well. But much of the time last year he looked absolutely overmatched at the plate (I wonder how many lead-off strikeouts he had in 2011...) Pagan brings speed to a team in desperate need of it. I like the trade.

I had Cabrera in left and Pagan in center. Do you think Pagan will serve as a 4th OF?

I think that Bochy will generally play the hot hands. Cabrera will be the starter and Pagan will spell left field and center field on a semi-regular occasion and will get more starts when he gets on a streak.

I would love to say that Sabean has acquired complementary players, but unfortunately, that is not true. Neither Cabrera nor Pagan can hit lefties all that well. Both are incredibly average players at best. Neither is a good center fielder.

The term "low baseball IQ" will be bandied about on more than one occasion during the season.

No one is mentioning that we got one of the top names in all of baseball.

I mean, come on...

Angel Pagan.

That is absolutely hilarious. When I first saw him when he was coming up with the Cubbies, I thought his name was some kind of joke. Than I remembered this is the same sport that gave us Yogi Berra, Don Slaught, Dickie Thon, Milton Bradley, etc.

My favorite back in the day was Dick Pole.

Cody wants a 3 year deal... or a shorter term deal in a smaller ballpark.

Once I saw those statements, I knew it was bye bye Cody.

"Andrew Baggarly of San Jose Mercury News reports that Cody Ross is not interested in returning to the Giants on a one-year deal.

Ross is reportedly shooting for a three-year deal, but that has pretty much no chance of happening. If Ross has to wind up settling for a one-year deal, which seems likely, he prefers to go to a more hitter-friendly environment."

Right now we only have Nate, Pagan, and Melky as "full-time" OF's. Belt will likely see 3/4 of his time in the OF. I don't think we will see much of the Huffer as an OF. Remember, we lost Torres, Burrell, Rowand, and likely Ross. Basically, we now have 4 OF's sharing 3 spots, which is about right. I don't see any of them getting much more than 500 PA's in the OF. Belt may get more but probably 150 or so will be at 1B.

While I think the odds are against it, things will certainly get congested if we sign Beltran.

That's congestion we'd like to have. I too think it's even less likely we get Beltran than I did before, and that was low to begin with.

But if they did somehow, I think possibly they'd dump Huff for a C prospect from some team willing to pick up his contract, maybe even eat half to make that happen.

I've seen Angel Pagan play roughly 20 games in CF. Two of those games were in person. I thought his defense was above average.

Sabes traded a minor (sorry, iHateDodgers, but it's true) piece of a major strength to adequately fill a space of need. I know it seems like we're wearing rose-tinted glasses, but these are smart moves that stay within the budget. Plus, there are assets and money left over to make minor improvements that will provide substantial depth. If this team stays moderately healthy, the rest of the NL West is fucked.

Haha I wouldn't say he was a minor peice 68.2 IP is pretty integral - most innings of any reliever besides Mota, but as noted our BP is stocked with talent, still not easy to replace that kind of arm and hopefully it won't bite us in the ass if one or two guys get the injury bug... but I gotta say Pagan is a good pickup.

I think he's a definite upgrade over Torres or Melky.

FWIW I just spoke to a friend of mine in NY and he says that Pagan was a good player who struggled with the media out there after taking over for Beltran. He thinks he'll rebound for us.

I can easily see Pagan being the starting Cf if his ST is good. Melky, while capable of playing CF, is better off in LF where is inferior D won't catch up to him as much.

But, I do agree with you, they both bring speed, and having two players who can swipe double digit bags will be welcomed. I wouldn't be surprised if they hit 1/2.

Assuming a healthy Franchez, I think you HAVE to hit him 2. He is prototypical.

Pagan - CF
Franchez - 2B
Sandoval - 3B
Posey - C (I had Panda hitting 4, but his hitting style is not conducive to protection, and Posey does not really NEED protection)
Cabrera - LF
Belt/Huff - 1B
Schierholtz - RF
Crawford - SS

I like Cabrera in the 5th spot. Assuming last years power numbers weren't a total fluke, he has plenty of sock for that spot. And when was the last time this team had a guy with any speed in the middle of the order?

I gotta add: looking at that lineup, it looks to be another year of Torture...
