No one's happier for him than Claude Giroux.

one thing that will help in that situation though.. giroux is still RFA :)

He becomes an UFA if not locked up by 2015 , right? Is the RFA max the same as UFA for cap hit?

I'd say Mike Ribeiro is happier right now. After all he's going to be the #1 center on the UFA market.

I'm not sure that his stock is that high. Yes, he's probably the top contender at this point, but I can see a lot of teams looking to the trade market instead. This could get even worse than the Brad Richards year.

his current contract expires the summer of 2014, and he'll be a restricted free agent. the cap hit max is the same, but the flyers wont have to bid against anyone, and even if they do, and decide to walk away, they'll get four 1st round picks. so that gives the flyers a lot of leverage in negotiations with giroux.

he'll still get paid, no question. but i dont think getzlaf getting 8.25 automatically means giroux gets paid more than that. i could still see giroux getting around 7/year

The Leafs will have 20,808,825 in cap space this offseason.

The Flames will have 20,105,051 in cap space this offseason.

The Leafs have a lot more guys to sign than the Flames do though. Bozek, Gunnarson amongst others. The big name for Calgary of course is Iginla.

where are those numbers coming from? r u including a 7.5% offseason cushion?

Calgary Flames Salary Cap Chart 16.185 space with 14 players signed

Toronto Maple Leafs Salary Cap Chart 17.1 space with 13 players signed

I wouldn't be surprised if the Rangers bought Richards out.

Agreed. Thinking about some of the big UFA signings over the last few years, the Parise one seems like the only notable signing that seems worth it. Pronger, Suter (so far), Kovalchuk, Richards all seem to be pretty heavily overpaid for their production. Maybe including Kovy was too much. He's been pretty good, but not at the price in my opinion.

i heard some crazy that the Rangers would possibly move Gaborik as well. he only has one year left no? if they move Gabby and Richards they could rebuild around Nash and still have a very good team. they are in a good position (still think they gave up too much grit for Nash)

Gabby's having a down year, so I wouldn't be surprised. In hindsight, they should have moved him over the summer. I think he only has 16 points so far.

There is talk that THIS might be the "Brad Richards year".

Potential buyout coming.

I know they've got a lot of re-signing to do this offseason, but St. Louis with Corey Perry would be absolutely lethal.

NO! STOP THIS AT ONCE!

The Rangers will decide Nash is a scrub and buy him out. THEY HAVE TO!

Ugh

:omg: I'd hate to be in that division.

Me too. :D

I wish those teams looking for 1st line centers the best of luck. If they go the trade route it will cost them dearly.
