Seeing this, you can bet favorably if Sammy has a good year, he is going to coming running to the dole for an upgrade in his salary. That is when the Rams will jettison him in favor of somebody else who is cheaper unless Sammy's year is exceptional. Then the Rams may consider it.

Perhaps Red Chaos. The future resolution of the potential issue at QB depends pretty much on Sammy this year. He has a great year, the Rams may keep him. He doesn't, he'll be out the door.

Just read an article that said Bradford's arm has benefitted from some workouts he's been dong while rehabbing the knee. I guess that's all well and good, but who do they have working on what he has between the ears? Still a deer in the headlights until proven otherwise.

Stronger arm huh, so that means his checkdown 3-5 yd passes will have more zip on them. Bradford is going to be throwing bullet slant route passes for 6 yds.

On ESPN this morning, they were using examples like Stafford's contract as to why Dalton's deal made sense. All I could think was "sure, that team overpaid their QB, why not the Bengals?"

With how out of control these contracts are becoming he's going to be a bargain price sooner or later.
Plus I'm pretty sure he was signed under the old CBA. so ya:gaah:

How many years has Dalton had 3000 yards?

Not sure what you're getting at?? 3000 yrds isn't something to be proud of in the NFL. 4000 and then we're talking in which he only had one. He also had 22 ints to 33 TD's. Which isn't that great. And his completion % was under 60%. Like I said, he's average at best with a top 10 QB salary. Good for him I guess. Bad for the rest of the league.

Actually, this another decent contract that looks bad on the surface.

LOOK: Andy Dalton's new contract rightly pays him like a 2nd-tier QB - CBSSports.com

A closer look at Dalton's contract suggests the Bengals paid him like a second-tier quarterback, which, frankly, is exactly what he is. The deal includes a $12 million signing bonus and $17 million guaranteed.

As CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora noted, all of the fully guaranteed money comes in the first year of the deal. Dalton will make $18 million guaranteed this season and $22 million by February.

Beyond that, the contract is essentially pay as you go. The team will have protections from a cap and cash standpoint should they choose to move on after a few years. In the meantime, Dalton gets a life-altering chunk of money within the first 6-7 months of signing the deal.

Andy Dalton:

2011- 300 completions, 58.1%, 3398 yards, 20 TD's 13 INTs
2012 - 329 comps, 62.3%, 3669 yards, 27 TDs 16 INTs
2013 - 363 comps, 61.9%, 4293 yards, 33 TDs 20 INTs

A stat geek would say that he's gotten better each year. And I'm NOT saying the guy deserves a big contract. But Andy has also been tough enough to be injury free as well.

But we see what happens when a QB actually pulls the trigger. 4000+ yards 33 TDs 20 INTs. NO most of us know that he was bad in the playoffs, but those are his regular season numbers in a good defensive division, playing a playoff schedule every year.

Has Bradford ever had 3000 yards? :)

SO Bradford's highest TD season was 21. His completion % is below 60, Andy's is above 60% actually. Bradford's career QB rating is 8 points lower than Dalton's.

Dalton is an above average young QB, somewhere in the 12-15 range. Throughout the contract he will average about $14 mil a season if he plays his contract out. That is market value for his position & stature at that position right now. Even if he just produces the same as he has been, Cincinnati has him locked up long term at market value. If he improves on what he has produced so far, Cincinnati will have him locked up at a below market rate. If Dalton regresses over the next few seasons, they can cut him with only a minor salary cap hit.

Either way, this is a good contract for both sides. I would rather have Cincinnati's QB situation right now than be in Jacksonville, Arizona, Cleveland, Oakland, St Louis, Minnesota, Tampa Bay, NY Jets, Tennessee, Houston, Buffalo, or Miami's shoes right now. The league is divided into two categories, those with a QB & those searching every year or every other for a QB. Cincinnati has their QB in place for the foreseeable future. Which is the right path to be on.

Take the numbers out of the equation, remember this is a passing league & even average QB(s) get paid.

Well I never compared Dalton vs Bradford. I just think they vastly overpaid for an average QB.
What are they going to do when AJ Green which is one of the best WR's in the league wants to get paid?

The league is divided into two categories, those with a QB & those searching every year or every other for a QB.
There are at least 4 groups.

1) Teams with Franchise QBs
2) Teams with starter QBs and you can't tell if the team makes the QB or the QB makes the team
3) Teams with young QBs
4) Teams with journeyman QBs

You don't want to be in category 2 for too long, I'll admit that.

I could see Bradford's contract near the 130 million dollar range if he has a great season.
