Ew.

Also, lol at the fighting shit. Whoever the hell was claiming it was unfair (forget who it was) is ridiculous. Asham is a middle weight and was getting his ass kicked before landing two good punches.

yah that part of it is ridiculous ... the fight becomes fair when both guys start throwing ... yes Asham is a middle weight but pound for pound hes always been one of the best ... Beagle was stupid to stand there and trade punches ... should have taken a defensive posture and just hung the fuck on for dear life by tieing Ashams arms up ... know your opponent!!!

Yes. But Beagle was holding his own in the beginning. If Asham goes down there, instead of being able to get his hand free, no one says shit about it. But Asham got those two punches in, so now he's a meanie and it's so unfair.

like they mentioned on deadspin ... I think Asham went to fight Beagle reluctantly ... because he knows his job and he knows the code and he also knows Beagle isnt a fighter ... and thats how beagle got his 2 early "free" surprise shots in

So Beagle got his shots in against a passive Asham, who was just noticing Beagle's lack of defense. When Asham decided to strike, one punch, two punches, instant unconsciousness

Unfortunately in todays hockey, yes. I believe a man should fight his own battles. And I am completely for fighting in hockey, and always will be. But, the sport has shifted towards other guys answering for other players, and scrums after every SOG and clean hit. It sucks, and I dont think it is going to change. So instead of complain about it... It is what it is.

For what amounts to a face wash? This is my problem with fighting today. It doesn't honor the old code and fights happen too frequently over nothing.

And of course you don't, but you are going to be wrong. :)

I do agree with you on one thing - I don't have a problem with who the fighters were, though I'm not sure if Beagle had much of a chance to decline here. Its what the fight was over that concerns me.

I don't think the fight was a direct result of the hit on Letang, I think it had more to do with the energy in the buildig was dead, and Asham was trying to get his team and the crowd some energy... and it worked perfectly... if the Pens were up 2-1 and that hit occured, I don't think a fight happens.

Wow! wish i didn't have to drive in shitty LA traffic last nite. I missed one hell of a GDT:rockon:

BTW, a couple of shifts prior to Jay scuffling with Letang, he two-handed Malkin across the wrists. In short.... he had a fight coming to him

I do my best to avoid driving in LA period... I try not to stray out of the south bay (esp now that I have a 2 month old)..... I'm on the 91 more than any other freeway, thank goodness for fast trak. I do have to venture into downtown on the 18th... king home opener... I got a 10 pack for kings games this year.. Pens coming into town on 11/5.. hopefully Sid is back by then...

I don't understand why players in hockey need to see their teammate fight to get motivated to do the job they are paid millions to do. Pro athletes in every other major sport don't seem to require this.

I think the fight probably was a result of the "hit" b/c otherwise Asham would have been tapping Hendricks on the shoulder.

If you watched the game, you know in the 3rd the Penguins were on the attack with or without the "motivation from the fight." The Caps went in to D shell mode (too early) and the goal they scored seemed like it was coming with or without guys going toe-to-toe.

I have to do the 405 to the 101, shuffle. It quite possibly is the worst stretch of traffic in the US. :L

I don't know.. I never been payed to play sports before... but I have played in front of large crowds... and when the crowd is into the game, when the crowd energy level is high, it affects you as a player. The crowd had no energy in he 3rd, after the scuffle along the boards, they started getting restless and Asham, IMO, took that opportunity to get some energy back into the building... it worked... you can say the Pens would've scored a goal anyways because of the pressure, but they didn't score unitl after the fight, unitl after the crowd was full energy. That fight earned a Pens one point, again, just my opinion.
