If true, isn't best to find out now, during preseason? And if they are so concerned that he is one hit away from being on IR, again, find that out now so his replacement can be getting first team reps. You can't argue the fact that the more reps he gets, the better he can be evaluated. 8 attempts is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

I honestly think the injury possibility is secondary. I think its about keeping him in a controlled environment for as long as possible. For some reason the team is still in a ride with Robert or go out in a blaze of glory trying mentality. The reality is, the offense moves the ball better with Cousins under center. But I digress, I think the whole point is to limit Griffins time for now, give him a small sample and have a focused area to try and improve him on. We can agree that the score in preseason doesnt matter, but being able to score does. I will just come out and say it, I think we limit the rest of the teams ability to improve because they are so intent on making Griffin a success in some fashion even if its not the game changing all powerful franchise QB they envisioned he would become when he was drafted.

I agree. It is not only rg3 that needs the reps. The right side of the OL needs reps. If your sentiments are correct, RG3 is holding back the development if the rest of the team.

i think he did some good things . small things that will help in game management . its one preseason game so hopefully we will see more . the 3rd preseason game will tell us more . i agree KC moves the team better but as i said before i am not going to bash Rg3 unless his play warrants it . last nite i think he did well with room to get better

i might need to rewatch the game but what exactly did Rg3 do last nite that held up the "development " of other players because i didnt see it . he missed 2 red zone throws ? i am not seeing it . again i am not saying he was a world beater out there but where is this holding people back crap coming from ? if scherf and moses need more work then we have an o/line coach and a HC that can get them more reps . there isnt a law that says they cant play with KC or colt for that matter

I said "if" sharks sentiments are right. You need to read what he posted.

But in reality, rg3 didn't do much, one way or another. That is the point. If they aren't going to use him, then they aren't really using the entire pass offense. For as he goes, so goes the passing game (and by extension, the running game, too).

  • John Keim, ESPN Staff Writer
CLEVELAND -- The play unfolded the way Washington Redskins hoped. They ran a play-action fake, the safety froze and then they adjusted to a slightly unexpected route. Everything was good up until the end, when Pierre Garcondropped a ball.

That play against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday showed who the Redskins want to be offensively. On the previous play, they ran the ball for 5 yards, setting up a second-and-5. So they sold the run again -- and Garcon conned the safety into thinking he was coming to block him. But then Garcon turned it up field to a spot that wasn't the original plan and quarterback Robert Griffin III fooled the corner into thinking he was throwing underneath. Then came the drop.

However, in the preseason it's about seeing how players handle plays and Griffin did a nice job on this one. It wasn't exactly a highlight of his night, but that wasn't his fault. If the Redskins are going to do much offensively, the run game must set up the pass and on this series it did.

"It's great that me and Pierre are on the same page," Griffin said. "We saw the same thing and have to execute and finish the rest of the play. It's good to see him good enough to be a good deep threat for us."

In the Redskins' 20-17 preseason win over Cleveland, Griffin completed 4 of 8 passes for 36 yards. The starting offense managed a field goal. For Griffin, there was the usual good and bad -- areas to build on and areas to fix.

He did a nice job on one bootleg to his left, getting his hips around and delivering a ball to receiver Ryan Grant for 22 yards. Earlier, the two connected on a third-and-5 for 9 yards when Grant ran a cross and caught the ball in stride.

And Griffin picked up a third-and-2 with a 3-yard run.

But there was a downside and it's one that needs to improve. The red zone offense did not work in their three plays inside the 20-yard line. Griffin missed on two fade passes (one of which was not the primary read); it's a throw that hasn't always clicked in practice this summer, either.

It's an issue that must be resolved: Last season Griffin completed 14 of 31 passes inside the 20-yard line with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Three years ago he completed 24-of-39 with 10 touchdowns and no interceptions -- his ability to run changed how defenses played them here and it opened up the pass.

The stat that coach Jay Gruden liked: No sacks of Griffin, though he was hit hard a couple times on blitzes, whether he could have done anything about it or not, I don't know yet. But those hits always seem worse vs. Griffin than most other quarterbacks.

Overall for Griffin, he threw twice as many passes as he did in last summer's preseason opener. He got to run around and make a few plays.

"There's no need to overthink anything," Griffin said. "Let your instincts take over and that's what you do. We'll continue to do that."

That needs to happen if Griffin grows into the sort of quarterback the coaches need.

ok pass rep fans , he threw twice as many passes as he did in last season's pre season opener and if you look at the decidedly "mixed " kiem stuff you will see that Rg3 and garcon made the right read together

Just to be clear, I'm not bashing Rg3. I'm expressing concern over the coaching staff's use of him (or lack of use).

well , as i have said they doubled his passes from last season and he played a quarter . that is in line with what other starters get if not more . mckown got one drive in a new offense

So you dont think scaling back the play book, or basically limiting the passing game to mostly shorter safer throws is limiting the entire team and its development??

So Griffin threw 4 passes last year in the season opener. This year we doubled that. Yippee.

Anyone else think we still seem to have some major tackling issues? Saw a lot of missed tackles last night.

Moses will be our starting RT this year. Where is Shark? lol. I thought the line played well last night. Lavou did miss a blitz pickup that crushed RG3.

who scaled down the playbook ? and he hit grant for 22 downfield and garcon botched a 61 yd td potential td pass

now i havent given the game a huge second look but i didnt see a scaled down playbook because of Rg3 . i saw a team working on the running game i saw a qb that took what the defense gave them and converted some 3rd downs

now this doesnt mean they WONT scale it down . it doesnt mean that RG3 was "all world " . it means he seemed to be better then the train wreck he was last season . again its one game , he could turn into the goat screw he was last season . the jury is still out on him , and yeah he doesnt seem to be worth the price we paid to get him but i didnt see all this major dumbing down because of him

and by the way if i were choosing the qb from what i have seen the past 4 years my choice would be KC hands down

he has a better grasp of the offense , the team moves the ball better when he is on the field and i think they pulled the plug on him too early last season

i am just laying off bashing Rg3 and trying to support him
