Jon and Dany were the ones that made it possible for the dead to come south.

If Jon doesn't go beyond the wall to get a dead guy and Dany doesn't come to the rescue, then the dead still don't have any way to go beyond the wall.

But no one saw the entire picture. Not even Bran. He has to know when and where to look.

Not in episode one, but they will still have to deal with Cercei (the true villain of the series) after the war in the north is decided somehow. Then I'm pretty sure we'll get Sandor removing that Gregor monstrosity out of the picture.
