I thought Neal was supposed to fill some of the offensive void left by Sid and Malkin?

Neal isn't much of a playmaker. He can crash and bang with the best of them, and has a good nose for the net, but if no one is setting him up he can go pretty cold.

Look for him to light it up if he can get a whole season with Sid or Geno under his belt.

Overall, great series. I didn't get to watch as much of this one as I wanted, but it was a hell of a game seven. Rolo is a beast, and I'm rooting for the Lightning in the East. I don't think they get by Washington though.

I really hate this argument for several reasons.

1. It's not Sid's decision. I'll trust the doctors who went through four years of undergraduate education, six years of medical school, and five years of residency to get where they are. If they said Sid wasn't ready, then he wasn't ready, and there's nothing he could do about that. What'd you want him to do, lie? Which leads me to point two.

2. Look at what happened to Marc Savard. He may never play again. Maybe he lied to his doctors and came back too soon. Do you want that to happen to Sid? No? Good. He's been honest with the doctors, and it may save no only his career, but his life, and more athletes need to take that approach.

3. Nobody is weak for sitting out for an injury. If you can't go then you can't go. Concussions more than anything else because of their long-term implications.

4. Crosby has shown nothing but the highest competitive drive and toughness from the very beginning of his career. He's played with injuries before, he works relentlessly to get better, he eats, sleeps and breathes hockey. There is no reason to believe that he didn't do everything in his power (without being stupid) to get back on the ice this season.

5. With recent reports about NFL players lying on their concussion tests coupled with all of the new information on permanent brain damage across sports because of concussions, treating head injuries with extreme caution in the NHL is paramount. This is absolutely the right thing to do.

I think that about summarizes how I feel about that.

I just want him, Malkin and Jeffrey to have full recoveries and then move on from there.

injuries happen, and the NHL (teams) purposefully protect their injured status for a reason.

I dont disagree, but I do think this is a long ass time to sit out. The Tangradi hit looked more severe and he made it back. I know things are never equal but 4 months seems pretty severe for the hit he took

Life (which is how long Savard will be out) is a lot more severe than four months. It's an extremely case-by-case thing.

I did say it is different for everyone. But you cant tell me when you saw the hit you said well there goes his season, something MANY said of the Savard hit.

You've just got to realize that's not how concussions work. People can get absolutely destroyed, lose consciousness, and come back in a week. Others will barely get tapped and be dizzy / nauseous for months.

Not sure which of the two Crosby is, but I think he's fine, just on an incredibly cautious timeline.

To be honest, unless the rest of our team magically transformed, this team wasn't a contender even WITH Crosby. We might have beaten the lightning, but Washington / Boston / Philly are much better than what we showed these last two weeks.

The initial hit by Steckel looked really bad, in my opinion. There was a lot of whiplash. I thought immediately that it was a concussion and that he would be sitting for a while. I didn't know how long, but I expected at least the area of a month.

When he came back for the next game, I was stunned. When Hedman hit him and he left the game, I thought for sure it was the product of the Steckel hit. Two incidents of head trauma in three nights did not bode well in my mind.

When I heard the initial injury report projecting him to return in a week, I was flabbergasted. No way. One week for two head traumas (one which looked fairly severe) in three days? A month at least.

Turns out, it was four, and I'm really not surprised.

The worst thing about this game, is that after the second period I turned to my gf and said, "We haven't had a third-period comeback all season, and our powerplay has been atrocious. I have a feeling we'll get a powerplay with less than two minutes to go; the ultimate test."

Sure enough, that's exactly what happened, and they failed the test.

Other than skill, I also think there was a severe lack of leadership without Crosby out there. Defensively, not so much, but nobody up front really stepped up.

He was the guy I would have pulled out in favor of Tangradi (who should have been in tonight). What a disappointment. Lemieux can't be pleased, especially after he vouched for Kovy.

I have games 3 and 4 on DVR. Luckily I didn't delete them out of disgust. But I still don't have the motivation to transfer them to DVD. Maybe someday I will.

I still don't understand how Tangradi wasn't in that game. Or how Nisky was. The fact that Engo made no postseason appearance shocks me. And call it luck if you want, but Tangradi was on the ice for the past 2 PP goals this team scored.

On the Sid concussion thing...I think dark summed up what needed to be summed up. You're either just hurt right now from the loss and thinking of what could've been, or you have no idea what concussions are like. I'm thinking it's the first.

like Darkstone said ... its a case by case thing

one thing that comes out of this is hopefully teams stop categorizing/grading concussions in the media the day after a head shot incident

Pens said Crosby had a mild concussion the days after he got popped in TBay
Habs said Pacioretty had a serious concussion in the days after Chara did him

just call it a concussion and stop trying to diagnose something so difficult to diagnose

Or just have Dr. Recchi give his diagnosis to the media. Problem solved!

I never said this is unprecedented. But that is certainly not the norm for a concussion

i don't even like crosby. his rat face pisses me off. but even i can respect his competitiveness. i doubt he was kicking back with a cold beer thinking how nice it was to have some time off. i also doubt that he was making up symptoms.
