Not necessarily. Got to know how to spend it. The A's, Tribe & Rays are 3 of the least monied franchises & all ended up in the playoffs

The A's and the Rays, there's two interesting case studies. Both franchises have had their share of playoff appearances of late, and both are very highly regarded when it comes to player development, yet neither has won a ring, and only the Rays have been to the World Series...once.

Just goes to show there is no secret potion for wining a WS there are so many variables.

Player development is just a part of it.

Spending money is no guarantee for success but not spending money can doom you to failure.
You're telling that to someone who endured Jeremy Jacobs' attempt to get away with signing only players willing to settle for the vet minimum.

If the Bruins of those years hadn't had Tim Thomas in his prime doing the bulk of their goal-tending...

The Rays probably have one of the top front offices in all of sports and the A's well....they're the A's. The thing about the Rays is that they are in the AL East and that will immediately lower your odds of success due to competition.

Thanks for the reminder.

Bostons fans = New York fans 10 years ago

and yeah.......im gloating

and I'm fully aware it will end at some point

True but one would think that having all that talent and a "genius" as your manager would yield some titles.

They got beat by the Rangers a couple of times in the playoffs, right? Sometimes you just run into a better team.

It was probably Jacobs' sons who convinced him to spend that money.

I'm not sure how much formal authority he's given them, but gather they are making the important decisions these days. They've had plenty of chances to learn from their father's mistakes.

The Cardinals had to be nudged a bit to spend money. Pujols was making 'Lebron in Cleveland' kind of rumblings so we made the Matt Holliday signing because the A's are thrifty and he was weird stadium splits and STL was one of the good ones.

Nice series.

You have the better team and the hottest playoff hitter I've seen in my years of watching ball.
Ortiz is a monster masher right now and your ace was better than ours.

As much as I'd love to think STL could win 2 straight in Boston, it's unrealistic with Napoli coming
back. :noidea:

Hopefully, it goes 7 and we see a hit fest with Peavy and Kelly on the hill.
