POtential means about as much as a $1 lottery ticket. I think you are taking it entirely too heavy. Aside from giving you unrealized expectations... what has Gallette done for this team?? HIs biggest contribution has been to have the kindness to at least get injured soon enough that we could make adjustments to not having him. I will take an ACTUAL 3.5 sacks and 16 games played over a potential ten sacks and not a single snap played any day of the week. And I say this as a guy who was pulling for Gallette. But the team made a mistake in depending on him and asking Murphy to make the position switch because of it.

When your team loses a top pass rusher its going to hurt the defense. Norman wasn't with us last year either. We expect him to be an upgrade at CB for us this year. Galette and Norman were the two huge upgrades this year. One went down so yes it matters.

If some one that actually played a single snap for us last year was lost for the year, I would be upset. Jarrett being released upsets me. But honestly, you sound like one of these Pokemon Go kids with this was going to be the greatest thing ever kind of talk. We are no worse off now than we were this time last year considering Gallette did nothing for us besides false expectations.

lol. are you serious? The releasing of Jarrett is more important to you than Galette going down for the year. You have to be kidding me. You seriously lost it dude. Are you drinking tonight?

Jarrette actually did something for this team... Remind me again how many games has Gallette actually played for the Redskins??

And yes, the fact that we had to release some one who actually produced for us due to injury, does bother me more than losing some one to injury that we never really had.

Smith was coming on late last year. Disappointed, but looking foward to seeing what was going to be the long term solution at that position anyway can do.

Doenst matter. he was a 10 sack guy two years in a row. I don't care where he played. He offered a lot more than Jarrett did to this team.

This does suck, but I don't view this as a huge loss. You can only lose something you once had. We never had him so we really don't know where he was or how good he could have been. It is a shame, i hope this isn't a harbinger of things to come.

I'm trying to understand the logic some of you are using. Say we were depending on our first round draft pick to start this year, and he tears his achilles tendon. Would that basically not matter because he never played for us before?

Some of the opinions on this board simply amaze me. Let's say when the Miami Heat signed LeBron he blew out his knee in practice and was lost for the season before his first game. Are some of you really claiming it would not have been a big loss because he hadn't played for them the year before? That's beyond ridiculous. Of course it would have been a big loss for the Heat, it would have totally changed their season. And to a lesser degree this was a big loss for the Redskins. He was penciled in to play a huge role and was considered a big reason for an improved defense. I am so pissed off about this.

You are the only one that understands. These guys are crazy just b/c he wasn't on the team last year he doenst matter. Offensive coordinators would have to prepare for Galette making everyone else on the defense better. Would offensive coordinators have t prepare for Jarrett? lol. This is a huge loss to the defense.

May be the hardest position to understand that I have seen here. We are not alone, Ruz gets it too. So Andrew Luck missing his rookie year would have had little impact on the Colts season because he wasn't there the season before? Yeah, right.....

The ONLY valid part of the argument is we have not seen him play in this defense so we are not 100% sure what sort of impact he would have had. But that same poster also claimed it was not a big loss for the reason we are commenting on and that's just a crazy conclussion to make. A pass rusher tends to be a pass rusher regardless of systems. Peppers, Jarad Allen, Ware, the list of pass rushers who excelled on their new team is a long one.

Yes let's compare Junior Gallette to Lebron and Luck as examples.:nono:

Never compared them as players, in fact I went out of my way to make that clear by using the phrase "to a lesser degree" when referring to Galette. But I used those examples to illustrate the problem with the logic that a team losing a new player won't be effected because that player was not there before. That logic is, well, totally illogical. Of course losing a player you were really counting on will have a big effect.

I get it, we were counting on a guy making a big impact. But the whole sky is falling mentality Im seeing over a guy who has never played a snap for us is a bit much. I was pulling for Gallette, mainly because I thought the whole reason the Saints let him go was a bit sketch from jump. But IM not losing sleep over it at this point because if we had no realistic plan B in the even he reinjured himself ( which was likely) then shame on our front office.

Shame on the front office? How many teams had a better backup plan than Preston Smith? The sky hasn't fallen, but the Skins defense wasn't good last year. The feeling was that the extra pass rush from Galette was going to make a big difference. There's nothing wrong in acknowledging that Galette suffering a season ending injury sucks for both him and the Skins.

Exactly. Clearly the team has a Plan B, and Plan C in Trent Murphy. But obviously Galette was Plan A and would have made a huge difference, that's what pass rushers mean to a defense. I just find Shark's position here strange since he was the first guy to cheer the original signing. I get it, the details out of New Orleans were sketchy. But clearly he understood the value of such a player 2 years ago, now he's treating this news as if it's nothing.

I wil lsay again, saying it sucks is one thing. But the perpetual sky is falling B!t(h fest over losing a guy who has been to this point a disappointment.... not warranted in my opinion.
