Hardy has like 40 career sacks. If we don't sign him I'll be pissed! Counting on him for a huge pass rush. (Yes sarcasm)

I wil lsay again, saying it sucks is one thing. But the perpetual sky is falling B!t(h fest over losing a guy who has been to this point a disappointment.... not warranted in my opinion.
I just said I agree that the sky didn't fall.

Otherwise, it wouldn't be so damn humid outside. Right?

If the sky's not falling, why is it so damn humid outside? Right?

Actually, I'm pretty sure I said I agree that the sky wasn't falling, but it still sucks.

I'm not going to apologize for being very upset at losing a key guy to the defense for the second year in a row. First time on the very first day of camp. This time he wasn't even playing football. Just very very disapointing.

Our pass rush, even with an improved Smith, is still very suspect. Galette would have very likely changed all that, instead I still see Romo stepping up and hitting Whitten for 13 and a first down over and over again.

No need to apologize to anyone. It sucks he got hurt again for sure and he's a good player when healthy but I get the sense some posters here think he's LT reincarnated

No he is not LT but he would raise the play of RK and PS. Why? b/c defensive coordinators would have to account for him on the field. Maybe take away double teams from other rushers. So it would make the whole defense better.

Plus if we lose RK or PS in the preseason or mid season this loss just gets that much larger. When your depth at pass rusher gets weakened its a big deal Kevin. This is why I was very optimistic about our defense this year b/c we had depth at the two most important positions pass rusher and CB.

Just going to throw it out there, but the concept of having depth kinda says you should be able to survive an injury to a starter without the whole thing becoming markedly worse. If you are saying we just got worse because of the loss of GAllette alone... then our depth was an illusion. :thumb:

No b/c this injury happened so early. Of course we can get by with RK and PS but this loss sucks. It was a very important loss to the defense. IF RK or PS went down the loss is just as huge.

that is why you dont project things too early . i have said over and over you dont know if a guy can ever come back from an achilles injury . now his other one is blown out which really makes counting on him again a mirage

You're still not making sense. Starters are starters because they are better than the backups. And even if the reserve is as good, then you lost your depth - since the depth has to start. They haven't even put the pads on yet. That's like losing your top accountant to an injury playing Pokemon Go. Well, not exactly.

Also, I think they were planning on moving Smith around the line to take advantage of mis-matches and to confuse offenses. Now, they likely can't do that to much extent - since they need him at OLBer.

We will have to agree to disagree then. I was fine with them signing Gallette and actually wanted him here both last year and this year. But its was a tad foolish to place so much on a guy coming back from a season ending leg injury as a pass rusher. I dont think we are any WORSE off now than we were at the end of the season aside from the idea that now we have taken Murphy out of the OLB rotation. Yes a healthy Gallette likely would have made us better, but we are for the most part no worse off than we were six months ago. Our defense SHOULD still improve despite losing Gallette. If it doesnt, then we got bigger problems than Gallette to begin with.

Jarrette actually did something for this team... Remind me again how many games has Gallette actually played for the Redskins??

That's a weird argument to me. So if Dotson gets injured in week one of the preseason and misses the entire year. It and won't really be shit and shouldn't hurt the team because he hasn't played a reg season game or took a a reg season snap? With 20 sacks his last two years in NO it wasn't as if Galette was an unknown commodity. Maybe someone, Murphy, P Smith who knows? Steps in and does a damn good or great job, but we can't pretend that the Skins from the coaching staff to the players to Galette himself weren't expecting a big year from Galette. That being Galette giving the Skins defense something they have sorely lacked on a consistent year to year basis since the days of Charles Mann and Dexter. A pass rush that can be a difference makker, game changer and game closer.

Dotson is a rookie on a 4 year contract. And while he has done nothing ot this point, I would consider it a loss. Gallette has to this point cost us what $1,75 million on two prove it deals and hasnt taken a snap. This time next year unless Smith really shows out, we will still be looking to bring in another pass rusher. As I said, I was pulling for Gallette, but as he did nothing for us last year.. and now will do nothing for us this year... I see it as no greater loss than that powerball ticket where I matched two numbers. It had LOADS of potential when I bought it, but at the end of the day if I was thinking I better hit on this or Im not going to be able to make the rent.... .then that was poor planning on my part. So sure yes I get where we were expecting a big year from him, but we didnt have him last year and we won the Division. My expectations for the team did not hinge on Gallette and what he added to the pass rush.... if he managed to stay healthy. This makes what 2.25 seasons lost to injury for this guy?

Wait, what? You have some of the strangest takes I ever come across my friend. They did have depth at the position, with 3 players good enough to be very good starters. Most teams do not have 3 OLB as good so the depth at the position was better than most teams and very real. But when you lose one of those three key players before camp even begins your depth has been reduced. This is not that hard to understand.
