(awesome screen name bro!)

Interesting idea and one that I haven't heard here yet. So, are you thinking Gag's will take a pay cut to remain a Flyer?

There are no renegotiations under the current CBA if you're talking about reworking it for this year. If you're talking extension, then he may take a discount, but it won't be a big one. You have to figure this will be one of if not his last chance at a bigtime contract.

it would be interesting if he signed something like a 32m 12 yr deal(I'm guessing he'd play 8 max). His cap hit would be nothing and I'm sure it would be front loaded to the point that he'd be happy, and he isn't 35 so it would work for the Flyers if he retired(by choice or if forced to).

Interesting. Something like 6 6 5 5 5 5 5 3 .5 .5 .5 .5 would be 12 years, $42 million for a cap hit of $3.5 million. He gets paid now, we save now. Then he can retire at age 38, or if he keeps playing 3.5 isn't all that bad a cap hit, assuming the cap continues to rise steadily the way it has. If he is a waste of space, a buyout would only count about 300K against the cap for a few years. Oh well, we can't carry a 7th defenseman for a few months. Get 'er done!

I'm not so sure the league would have too much a of problem given an injury prone player a contract like that, it is possible that they demand a shorter term say maybe 8 years 30m. It would be about the same cap hit and for a player who will soon be declining that isn't a bad contract. Who knows though since it is the Flyers and Bettmen hates us.

because they take advantage of the cap. lets say they sign gagne to 12 years and he only plays 8. it gives the flyers a smaller cap hit to improve their team now. it is not really fair since it kind of affects your cap and makes it seem higher.

Then I'd think the league should have specific contract guidelines. Handling them on a "one off" basis like this just reeks of shenanigans.

Zetterberg, Franzen, Hossa, Pronger, and Luongo all have these kinds of contracts. The NHL really can't do anything about it unless they put something into the new CBA whenever they need a new one. There is something in there now about how the salary from one year to the next cannot go up or down by more than half the average of the first 2 years of the contract, but they would need something like the salary of any year cannot be more than double or less than half the first year's salary. Then, Pronger couldn't make less than 3.8 any year of his contract, Luongo couldn't be less than 5, etc.

I can't imagine the GMs would like that.

I think GagneFire is a good poster. I don't think we should trade him unless we have some really good Rangers' fan prospects with spectacular prose.

Guys, you know we can't trade any of the posters on the Flyers board. We all have NTCs, and no way somebody waives one of those to root for the Rangers.
