Why don't we have a GM yet. The meetings happen already. Lets go.

my guess is you want both the GM and HC to make sure of 'details' and sign together? if they need to meet again after the SB, then meet again. Cause they likely agreed to some things and still need to confirm with potential Assistants?

At this point what is the advantage of signing the GM now? If that candidate is serious about the 49ers, two more weeks won't be the difference. That GM has already looked at the HC, draft position, and cap space. He has already decided on how it'll work with Jed.

I would think We would want the GM to start while we wait for Shanahan. Gm can start preparing who to go after. I mean shanahan had to talk about players he would like to go after in the FA market or draft already. At least the GM can start the process plus we can maybe start hiring some coaches. I mean Shanahan had to tell york this is who I want as my coaches go and try and get them and tell them Im on board as HC. I mean sitting and waiting for things is killing this team. We need to start doing something. I hope its McDonough. Guy is a good at the draft. What he did for the 49ers and who he help draft with Arizona. The guy is good at the drafting.

Yes I understand that and they had their meetings this sat. So u would of think Shanahan told them who he wants. Hire that person and start this process of moving forward.

Jed is not done with interviews. There is a 3rd candidate as reported by Matt Maiocco. Mark Dominik is the candidate that has entered the GM discussion.

If you were going to hire someone like that why not take my Idea and hire Steve Young. York u are clueless. Best part u had to beg Lynch to be GM because no one wanted the job and gave him 6 years. LOL shows how bad shape we are in.

I've never had to join a site that I just felt like browsing and not be a member of just to put a guy on ignore. Thank you purguy for being the first person to make me do that. Why you feel the need to post back to back to back, rather than just put everything in one post is beyond me. And you always think you know what you're talking about.

Anyway, very surprising hire. Odd to have interviewed the 2 candidates a second time yesterday and then just decide to hire someone out of left field. Regardless of how "secret" this needed to be, he seems like an odd choice just because of his lack of front office experience. Hopefully he and Shanahan can work cohesively to fix the culture of this team because it definitely is long overdue.

Ok now that I had a chance to relax I had to break it down a little. 6 year deal is more connected with Shanahan 6 year deal. They are tied together. It will be tough to have a 1st time HC and 1st time GM and maybe a rookie QB. Im a little confused why they would hire lynch. Again If they were going to do something like this why not Steve Young. Now Lynch is a smart man, knows his football but what does he know about being a GM. Yes Elway did it but I don't think Lynch is Elway. 1st of all Elway is doing for his team and he was a QB.

I do wish this works out and I will wait and see what we do this offseason before I fully judge. On surface Im not a big fan of this but I also understand we need a HC and GM who are on the same page. In this case Shanahan has more power then the GM so that usually isn't a good thing.

We will find out I guess.

I've had it with York. Just one more disaster. In 2015 and 2016 I gave him 2 years of slack. Both were spectacular failures. Now, when he's guided the team to ROCK BOTTOM, I again gave him the benefit of the doubt. Instead of hiring a good GM and letting him hire a HC, Jed ignored convention yet again, b/c he "knows better", and hired a HC first which ran off several great GM candidates, and followed it up by hiring a completely unqualified person as GM.

Disaster. Dumpster fire. Clown show. This is the GM-level hiring of Bombsula and it's ALL on the owner. Tell me if you've heard this time line before:

--spend weeks interviewing everyone under the sun,
--some candidates decline to speak with the team,
--see our #1 choice get hired elsewhere,
--get oh-so-close to hiring a guy several teams want,
--then, after weeks of looking, we hire an underqualified nobody that we could've hired right out of the gate b/c no one else wanted the job.

It should sound familiar b/c that is the same process that led us to Bombsula and Kelly. When Jeddie/Marathe repeat the same mistakes, it's proof that they just aren't learning. This kind of "I'll show you how smart I am by doing something outside the box" is the kind of thinking that led to Andy Reid making his OL coach his DC and led this same York family hiring Dennis Erickson.

The good part of this is that York can be judged now. No need to wait. This hiring is a joke and the Yorks have a long track record of head-scratching decisions that lead to failure. The Yorks and Little Jeddie just can't get out of their own way. They've never had a single coach get a 2nd contract. If the Lynch hiring is Shanny's call, then this failure is even more glaring. Smh. Jeddie has put on a clinic of how not to run a team and he's done it 3 or 4 years straight. It's time to hold Jed accountable.

He didn't even want to interview with the Niners. My guess is that he didn't want to play 2nd fiddle to Shanahan. I think that's the reason why some candidates decline to interview and some withdrew their names. Let's see if Shanahan and Lynch can turn the fortunes of this team and bring back that "winning culture".

It's a bit of a head scratcher. He's a Stanford guy which is the only tie to the organization that I can make. Guess we'll see how this all works out. The positive (I think) is that we're at ground zero at the moment. Let's wait till they sign Shanny and see how the staff rounds out. Then, we'll pretty much have to wait until the draft to see what they do. I'm sure that we'll get plenty of insight once things are in place.

K positive and negative from super bowl; shanahan had a great game plan in the 1st half. That's the positive. Negative shanahan had bad 2nd half adjustments. He stopped running the bell for some reason. Hope he learns from this. Overall I'm still excited about our new coach.

He certainly has enough ability as an offensive coordinator, so we'll see how he does as HC?

I'd think two drafts before he gets enough players that REALLY suit his scheme? Obviously, this assumes he gets his QB, we know it is much easier said than done.
