Willis retired after a great career. Aldon Smith was on his way to a very good career before alcohol derailed it and now it looks as though he might now play another down in the NFL. Anthony Davis also retired. As you mentioned, both Iupati and Crabtree left as free agents.

Of course you have Balmer from 2008 and Jenkins from 2012 that were busts. Hoping the Reid, Ward and Armstead will have good a good 2017 season.

Ward played pretty well last year. He just can't seem to stay off the injury report like a few of our other players

i recall reading one writer suggesting he NOT be moved to 'centerfield'? Because even though his skill set from college makes him a good fit, his propensity for injury isn't.

But if he is already getting injured at CB..................

49ers made cuts today. Lower level players but a couple of noteable ones. Looks like a lot of players that Baalke brought in.

With a class of drafted and undrafted rookies on the way, the San Francisco 49ers made 13 cuts on Tuesday morning. They released OL Alex Balducci, S Marcus Ball, LB Carl Bradford, LB Jayson DiManche, TE Je'Ron Hamm, WR Chris Harper, LB Wynton McManis, P Brock Miller, DL Zach Moore, NT Mike Purcell, WR Eric Rogers, CB JaCorey Shepherd and LB Shayne Skov.

yep, we already expected most players from last year, will be gone. With upwards of 20 FA's, 10 draft picks, and a decent UDFA bunch, that is anticipated.

as the off-season progress, even more familiar names (from previous seasons) will be gone. Even past starters could be gone whether by trade or just being released.

The 2016 NFL draft class that could have saved Trent Baalke's job

Easy to go back and look now, so of course it would be a better draft class. Better but IMO still not enough to have saved Baalke. Baalke's problems go beyond his draft picks.

Anyway, lets look forward now.......Buckner needs to keep his pad level low, but not having to 2 gap should help his game.

Can Garnett be used in Shannahan's OUTSIDE zone run game? On th surface, seems like the answer is no? Is this why we're bringing in so many FA linemen, or just looking to improve depth?

Even if Redmond didn't play last season, doesn't mean he lacks talent?! See no reason why he can't compete for a starting role, IF he's healthy? Why do we assume he's going to the slot, only because he's shorter?

a few days after the 2016 draft, i did post we should've drafted Prescott or Dixon. But lets look ahead, don't see why Robinson can't be a good starting corner, especially in this scheme.

Blair can still make the team AND contribute, as that rush specialist. He won't get all the reps, but he can spell someone during games. That helps over the long season.

I don't buy this story at all. I don't think the 2016 draft could have saved Baalke. The impact of that draft would have come too late for Baalke. I wanted to draft Prescott too and the 49ers should have, but it is doubtful Prescott would have had the success last year in SF than he did in Dallas as Dallas had the perfect support for him last year
