Hawks won't pay top dollar for Maxwell and they will not have a problem sliding Lane ( Not Simon ) into his spot. Lane has proven a few time he is a solid starting cover corner ( better cover skill than Maxy ) he just isn't as big as Maxy seeing as he is only 6 foot and around 195 pounds. Thing about Lane is his speed, he has elite CB speed.

A few thoughts:

Lanes injury appeared (to me) to be at least a year in recovery.
Kearse is good enough that you might like an offer?
You're probably stuck with Baldwin. Don't want to change out everybody at once, remember the Panthers?
Sherman may come back this year but he will be awhile if he does. might need Maxwell?
Thomas will need some relief early too

Your secondary is weakened by injuries too much to start letting guys go.
You are going to need the higher cap to sign receivers.
Wilson's contract might be more comfy if for longer years. (not too much guaranteed)
Don't hate me but the best trade bait you've got might be the Beast????

There is no way the team wants to trade lynch. It would only happen if he demands out after this year. Won't happen without it.
'Letting' Maxwell go is likely out of their hands. He will get a high price and they have too many other things they need to do.
Sherman will be back before the season starts. It's not looking like he needs tommy john, but it's been pointed out before that even if it is it's 9+ months for pitchers because of how long it takes to get their arms back up to speed. That process is at least 3 months. It would not be more than 6 before he's fully able to go. And it could be a fair amount sooner.
We are stuck with baldwin because of his salary and his high dead money if they move him now, not because they are worried about turnover.
Kearse depends on how they work his deal. He's expendable.
Lane's broken arm will take some time, but that's why they need at least one more quality guy anyway. If Maxwell goes they have to replace him and start with Simon and whoever they get.

Maxwell and Carpenter will end up being overpaid elsewhere. Losing Maxwell is going to sting, and I have big doubts that Simon is durable and talented enough to fill his shoes.

We should be able to find a OG that can fill in for Carpenter via FA or draft. Finding a suitable replacement for Maxwell will be tougher.

I'm not hearing a lot of chatter from teams looking to re-sign their own players this year. Not many extensions have been coming through. Is it just me, or are teams looking at not retaining their free agents?

We just got an "indication" on the salary cap. An owners meeting is upcoming. I can't imagine throwing around money until the Cap is settled?

Now if someone sounds willing to take cheap money......

Interesting rumor going around about Seattle being one of a few teams that are looking to sign former rugby star Jarryd Hayne to try out at running back. He's 6'2" 226 lbs and ran an unofficial 4.52 40 at a private workout for NFL teams.

the article is about him signing with Detroit, but his agent has stated that there is no deal in place there and no decision has been made. What are people's thoughts about bringing in a 26 year old converted rugby player?

Looks like former Colt's DE Ricky Jean-Francois will be visiting the Seahawks shortly.

IIRC released players can be signed by anyone right now, but players who have expiring contracts are only eligible to get a new deal after March 10th.

I'm all for kicking the tires on anyone who looks like they have talent. Give him a deal equivalent to a UDFA ($5-$15K SB plus NFL minimum). Anything more than that is probably a waste. I played football. I played rugby. Outside of athleticism and breaking tackles in the open field, their isn't a whole lot of similarities in how the game is played offensively. This guy is going to have no idea how to pass block or read an offensive lines blocking scheme.

Yep, and teams can sign their own impending FAs too.

Hmmmm, WR, Stevie Johnson just hit the market.... 49er's waived him after one season... He'd be intriguing...

Intriguing idea was brought up on ESPN - CJ Spiller to Seattle to fill in as a utility/Percy Harvin player on offense. Thoughts?

Another report suggests that the New York Jets are highly interested in James Carpenter.

I don't see how we could get him for cheap enough where Seattle would realistically kick the tires on him.

Personally, I don't want him. He lost his starting job due to his horrible performance, and I don't see him as being the same kind of utility player that Harvin is. Also, having Harvin in the line up made the offense ineffective, so why would we wanna replace that? I don't think he'll be expensive after the season he just had, but I'm not sure I want him any more than I want Reggie Bush (who I also don't want).
