Who do you think will command the biggest salary of the big 5 goalies in free agency this year and what do you think they will get:

Chris Mason
Vesa Toskala
Jose Theodore
Evgeni Nabokov
Marty Turco

I'm thinking Nabokov makes the most with something like a 4 million dollar 1-2 year deal. With the rest falling between 2-3 million.

I think you are a tad low on your numbers, but I do agree that no one will get a huge payday.
So many UFA goalies available, that the GMs can play the others against the agents.

Nabakov will get around 3-4 million. I can't see the others pulling anything greater than 2 million. Goalies aren't going to command the salary that they used to get. It seems like the league is trending away from that.

nabokov is 35. he can sign an incentive based contract that does not count against the cap.

mason will get around 3.5 mil.
turco will get around the same.

no. you can only get that over-age bonus contract if you missed significant time the year before.

I never heard that. I heard the only compromise was the goalie had to be 35+

then why is every sports writer speculating that if the flyers get him it will be an incentive based deal?

my mistake.
Performance bonuses will only be permissible for the following types of players: (1) players on entry-level contracts; (2) players signing one-year contracts after returning from long-term injuries (players with 400 or more games who spent 100 or more days on injured reserve in the last year of their most recent contract); and senior veteran players who sign a one-year contract after the age of 35.

I thought the bolded part was combined with point (2)

after reading that passage again, I'm thinking i might have been right after all.
bonuses can be on
1 - rookie contracts
2 -one year contracts to +35 players who missed significant time.

otherwise, if it was for any +35 player, why wouldn't there be a (3) ahead of it?

it is for 35 year old players. it has to be approved by the league. trust me, the flyers wanted knuble to take a deal. i think it can only be a 1 year deal though and knuble wanted 2 years.

It is any 35+ year old player. Mark Recchi has played 83, 82, 72, 80 and 81 games in post lockout seasons and he has had bonuses on his his one-year contracts the past 2 years.

the flyers have negotiating rights to nabokov according to tim p.

if the flyers sign him before july 1st then they give the 7th rounder they got for not signing hamhuis to san jose.

basically parent for a 3rd and negotiating rights to nabokov.
