I have to disagree with this. Corey Crawford has put up very good numbers each of the past 3 seasons. That mediocre goalie the Blackhawks won the Cup with before turned out to be one of the best goalies in the league last year, so the contract would be totally worth it if Crawford ends up being like Niemi down the road. Also don't forget that Carey Price has been in the league longer than Crawford, hasn't achieved anything that Crawford hasn't, yet Price is the 3rd highest paid goalie in the league, so if Price is entitled to $39 million over 6 years, Crawford is also entitled $36 over 6 years. Maybe it's not the best deal for a goalie, but I think he deserves it considering what he's done for the franchise.
he was shite in 11/12 ... 1 year removed from being 36th out of 45 goalies in the league when it came to Save %
you compare that contract with the Sharks having Niemi locked up for 2 more years at 3.8 mill

Hal Gill @Skillsy75 1h
Summers over, school is on, air is cool, leaves are changing and hockey is about to.... ah, I need a team.
Hal Gill could be this year's Cam Barker puck...
Niemi was the best goalie in the NHL last year as far as I'm concerned. He should be paid much higher than he is. Easily one of the most underrated and underpaid goalies in the NHL. If we use Niemi as the example, a lot of goalies in this league are going to seem severely overpaid.
Also, there's this from Bob McKenzie:
Following up on @mayornhl's earlier tweet, veteran netminder Mathieu Garon has indeed been invited to LAK camp on a PTO (pro tryout).
and yet the blackhawks walked away from niemi after he won a cup with them and won an arb. ruling that would have paid him 2.75 shmill per
basically just shows how dumb and overpriced the extension with crawford was (and stan bowmans decision making with regards to the position has been)

I heard Chris Therien was their first choice for a pylon but they couldn't coax him out of the broadcast booth.
@News1130Sports: Free Agent Mason Raymond, formerly of the #Canucks is off to Toronto for a pro tryout with the Maple Leafs.
Excellent news, Matty.
