IMO he is 5th. Sherman, Haden, Talib, Revis and I do understand why he got the money he got but he shouldn't have got more then Sherman since Sherman is a better player. Hell he is going to get more then Haden in all likely hood who I think is better as well.
I might have Talib and Revis reversed but I agree about PP. IMO he will get beter but is over-rated at the moment. I don't know why the Cards pulled the trigger on this contract when they should have locked him up for much less money. Even if he has the potential to be the best CB in the league you just don't pay a player like he is until he is.

You don't pay a player for how good he IS; you pay him for how good you realistically expect him TO BE over the course of the contract.

Patrick Peterson always shadows the other team's #1 WR. I know for a fact Richard Sherman doesn't do that. He's also one of the best return men in the game. The dude got exactly what he's worth in today's NFL.

Everyone likes to say "overpaid" when a guy signs a huge contract, but then another guy always signs an even bigger one in the next couple of seasons. And then it's like, "He's overpaid too!" A GM generally wouldn't offer a contract to a guy who's not worth what he's getting. The way you get screwed is if the player becomes lackadaisical because of all the ca$h weighing him down or if he gets injured.

Patrick Peterson is the Sean Taylor of NFL CBs. He's simply the most talented guy at his position, and there really isn't a close 2nd. The Cardinals' defense started to dominate at the end of last year with much less talent in the front 7 than teams like the Niners or Seahawks, and Patrick Peterson is absolutely the biggest reason for that.

Really? I could see this about a rookie but for a third year player?

Just an excerpt from BR (I know not the best source)
Coverage

78/80
Patrick Peterson (6’1”, 219 lbs, three seasons) is actually one of the few NFL cornerbacks to line up opposite the opposing team’s No. 1 wide receiver on every play. For that, we commend him. It’s noted and factors into his ranking, which is why Peterson shows up as one of the best coverage corners. He’s long, exceptionally fast and fluid in his movements. In man or zone coverage, he shows the footwork, flexible hips and eyes to attack the ball. There are some inconsistencies (see Week 15 versus the Titans), but pound-for-pound, he’s among the best at coverage.
Run Defense

2/10

Peterson is great in coverage, but ask him to play the run, and he disappears. Some evaluators may not care, but we want a well-rounded cornerback. His four tackles against the run all year are embarrassingly low—no matter how often offenses avoided him.
Tackle

5/10

Peterson’s tackling skills bring to mind Deion Sanders—and that’s not a good thing. He’s big enough to be physical, and he will bring down players in space, but there are many misses to go along with his solo tackles.
Overall

85/100

If graded purely on talent, Peterson would be top five. Taking into account only his 2013 season, the man-coverage specialist comes in just inside the top

Yes. If a player is old, that's taken into consideration. If he's up & coming, so is that. But Peterson is already arguably the best CB in the NFL right now. He's easily the most talented. And the fact that he's always covering a #1 receiver will make the statistical analysis of his play look worse. But people in the NFL knows he's the shit. You don't become the highest-paid player at your position of all time because a GM is THAT stupid.

Sherman had 8 defensive holding or interference called on him last year alone. And how many times did we see him mug WR and completely get a way with it? Revis has had 11 in his ENTIRE career. He came in in 2007 in case you were wondering.

That's something I have to take into account when I am deciding who is the best cover corner in the game. Do they have to grab onto a WR all the time, or can they cover with natural ability?

Jerry Jones?. I would need to see more of PP on film to make any kind of judgement. I'm only going off of games VS the 9ers really and the reports from the idiot media. We will see just how good he is this new season anyway. :suds:

I love it. Baldwin is a waste if space and Washington is a 6'4" 204"5 lbs rookie receiver who runs a 4.3 40. Seems like a no brainer, Washington is a developmental player and could turn out to be great.

Is it just me or did that take way longer than it should have? I watched Washingtons combine tape...he's got the physical skills for sure...should be interesting to see if he sticks.

He's still a bit raw but no one can deny his talent. I'm surprised he was an UDFA to be honest. I'm hoping that we can stash him on the PS and let him develop his skill.

Yea I was surprised as well that he wasn't drafted...hopefully we'll be able to get him out on the field in preseason and see what he's got.

Interesting move... With the strong WRs on the team it is going to be interesting, Practice squad guy?.

Yeah, he probably wouldn't play this coming week but I'd expect to see a lot of him until he gets cut. I have my fingers crossed that we sign him to the practice squad and develop his skill, it would be nice to have an uber talented guy on the PS. Not only would that help him develop but it also helps our CB's practice against big and fast receivers.

I'm hoping he lands on the PS, he's got so much talent and it would be nice to tuck him away there to try and develop. Our WR's are either old or on short contracts so the future looks a bit dim at that position.

Do you know if he has any punt or kickoff return experience? Maybe a diamond in the rough with that size and speed?

How did I miss the 9ers signing Washington? That's great news! I loved this kid at MU. I really thought he would go in the later rounds. Great hands, great size, decent speed if the numbers are true. I really hope he can make the team.
