Didn't he try a Tom Petty song too at one point and got a cease and desist order from Petty's family? I think it was I Won't Back Down. LMAO.

Should be played every time Baron von Grabbercrotch storms out of a presser or an interview.
Free fallin?

Wouldn't the Senate need to be filibuster-proof?
Only takes a simple majority to change Senate rules and eliminate the filibuster. It's what Dems did originally for federal judges, except SCOTUS. Then McConnell took that a step further by adding SCOTUS to that, which is how we got Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and now ACB.

They could also likely try to get it through as part of the reconciliation process. There would certainly be a parliamentary rules fight on whether it was valid, but since DC and PR are both governed to some extent by the US Congress, they could attempt to include some type of budgetary adjustment tied to recognition of statehood into a budget bill.

DC statehood already passed the House, but McConnell of course didn't even let it come up for a vote in the Senate. Forcing Senators to go on record as officially denying statehood and all of the benefits associated therewith to 700K people in DC or 3M+ in PR who are asking to become states would be a tough political call.

Guarantee the people who made that think that sending your kids to college where they will be exposed to education and other cultures and typically wind up coming out of it more tolerant and open is "indoctrination".

He is kinda right. After Nov 4 we'll be hearing the sudden anguish over the debt. Because fixing their mistakes is gonna be expensive.
Wonder what George Washington would say if someone told him "in 250ish years, the Supreme Court is basically going to say they don't care if you followed the rules - some votes just ain't gonna count"?

I mean after he came to terms with the whole "women and blacks can vote" thing.

I know this would alter a lot about how the government works but I would give it max 7 years before the Republicans figure out a way to regain control and make the Democrats completely regret eliminating the filibuster the way they did for judges.

There are also a lot of things to consider for each case. For Puerto Rico, you're going to subject some of your poorest citizens to regular federal taxes while the party in power is likely to increase said taxes. Anti-abortion support is high amongst Puerto Ricans, 53% support banning as opposed to 41% in support of legal abortion. You will have to spend billions in establishing a bureaucracy in line with the rest of the country - new courts, new government offices, etc. - and finding people to staff them effectively. There is a massive corruption problem among politicians there. The language issue is going to bubble to the top in a myriad of ways. It would be a massive undertaking and there is a good chance that at the very least PR becomes a swing state and that's if they manage to vote for statehood in a binding referendum to begin with when faced with some of the above.

For DC, I think it's past due that they're made a state but I think there needs to be a consensus on how the district would be governed (ie: would a DC state need both a governor and a mayor?) that will cause some pretty strong dissention even among Democrats. Keep in mind that if Democrats manage to win the Senate history says the chances of them losing one chamber in 2022 is pretty high and they currently have a laundry list of shit they're promising to accomplish that history says they aren't likely to get around to entirely. This would be a massive undertaking and if you get to 2022 and the answer to "what did you guys accomplish that you promised in 2020?" is "we built some windmills and made DC & PR states", or even worse tried to do so and failed, fuck you might wind up with Trump back in the White House in 24 lol.

A grand jury in Cleveland on Tuesday indicted right-wing political hoaxers Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman with felony charges connected to a multi-state robocall campaign that prosecutors say was meant to scare voters in urban areas with large minority populations out of voting by mail in the Nov. 3 presidential election.

Wohl, 22, of Riverside, California, and Burman, 54, of Arlington, Virginia, are indicted on eight counts of telecommunications fraud and seven counts of bribery in connection with more than 8,000 calls that were placed to residents of Cleveland and East Cleveland.

Wohl and Burkman already face similar criminal charges in Michigan and a civil lawsuit in New York City connected to the same scheme. They have denied involvement.

The pair is also accused of hiring one of Wohl’s ex-girlfriends to publicly accuse Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases who is more popular and seen as more trustworthy on information about the pandemic than Trump, of assaulting her in a hotel in 2014. The woman later told a reporter that the accusation was false and that Wohl and Burkman paid her to levy it.

Biden tearing it up in a speech in Georgia right now.

And how crazy is it that a Dem is even campaigning in Georgia?

Honestly? It’s dumb. Go back to Wisconsin and NC and PA. You don’t need Georgia and you probably aren’t winning it. You emerge from your house three times a week to campaign, make it count lol

I always wonder what the fondling fathers would think of socialized medicine. Then I also wonder how they would feel about thousands of dollars for simple procedures. Maybe they would feel differently about socialized medicine then.
