This article is incredibly damning of the federal and Ontario governments and gives some pretty good reasons for why BC did as well as they did in handling the pandemic - namely that Dr. Henry was on the frontline against SARS in Ontario and from the first minute she was alerted knew that if she and the government didn’t act mass numbers of people would die.

Meanwhile, the protocols the feds and Ontario put in place after SARS were neglected and ignored, the feds not closing travel from China was a bad attempt at favoring diplomacy over public health (a strategy that obviously had little effect considering the Chinese admitted this week they’re holding Canadians hostage lol) and all governments ignored signs to start stockpiling equipment way too long despite the fact the Ministry of Finance were putting protocols in place to administer aid cheques from home in early February.
