So how does TSN fill the time during the winter months? Vic Rauter will be piling up the frequent flyer miles from Conception Bay to Nanaimo calling curling bonspiels.

They will probably try to get a more substantial NBA coverage deal. But they will probably just allow ESPN to saturate their programming even further.
What I wonder is what James Duthie will do. He has worked hard to make the NHL on TSN fairly entertaining. Wonder if he considers jumping ship

I'd like to see Ray Ferraro replace Glenn Healy on HNIC on those broadcasts and have Bob McKenzie replace PJ Stock on HNIC

I'm curious if CBC/Sportsnet will have an expansion draft type deal where CBC takes one guy, Sportsnet takes another, kinda like an agreement?

They probably won't all leave. I mean they can still cover hockey with shows, but just not show any games.

Shoot, if I'm part of TSN, I'm jumping ship, why would I want to be on a network that isn't willing to pony up the money to keep the NHL? CBC and Sportsnet would love to have those guys

Just had a very intersting discussion about this with a friend of mine. He thinks in a round a bout way, this might have been all done by Bettman to help NBC pick off Canadian on air hockey talent. NBCSN already uses Gord Miller on a few broadcasts, but his commitment to TSN keeps him there most of the time. With TSN out of the picture, this frees him up to call more games for them, plus hire others that are not thrilled with the idea of moving to CBC or Rogers.

As far fetched as it may seem, it sounds like the kind of backroom weasely move Bettman likes to try.

Wait a second, if it is a 12 year deal for several billion dollars, I will need to see the year to year cap hit. This contract may violate the new CBA. I say fine Bettman and take next years first round pick.

Some reports that CBC's agreement with Rogers is only for the first 4 years of this deal. Speculation that after the 4th year Rogers may push CBC out. If true. basically those 4 years will be essentially a transition period while Rogers takes over HNIC.

with the coin that Sportsnet/Rogers is putting into hockey does this mean their NFL aspirations are gone?

leaves Bell in an interesting spot ... become part owners of a new Toronto NFL team by building a new stadium and managing it ... wall to wall tv coverage for them would provide filler for the over 500 hours of NHL programming they lose

but then theyre submarining the league (cfl) that they have propped up (by excellent marketing) and that makes up virtually all their summer programming :noidea:

/tsn going all in on the NBA by just lifting games from espn wont work ... tv ratings for NBA in canada are akin to ratings for hockey in the states

wow Dave Staples is right for a change

Can Sportsnet raise its mediocre game to TSN?s high level? | Edmonton Journal

If a line-up of Ray Ferraro, Darren Dreger, Bob MacKenzie and Aaron Ward went up against the line-up of Louie DeBrusk, Brad May, Doug MacLean and Nick Kyrpreos, the final score would be TSN 7, Sportsnet 1.

That’s how much more astute, connected and critical TSN’s hockey commentators are compared to Sportsnet’s commentators.

The disparity between the quality of commentary is so great that you can count me in with the group of Canadian hockey fans that isn’t thrilled to hear today that the NHL has reached a 12-year, $5.2-billion agreement with Rogers Communications for the league’s broadcast and multimedia rights.

No more TSN NHL hockey after this year. Full on Sportsnet.

Makes my head hurt a bit.

TSN cant even go after western cdn regional rights deals since Edm, Cal and Van are locked up with sportsnet until the 2020's

The biggest loss for me is Bob McKenzie, he doesn't try to push any agenda, just pretty much old fashioned straight on reporting and he doesn't take cheap shots like some of his colleagues at TSN.

and it sounds like he isnt going anywhere ... sad that we will prob see less of him (Thats Hockey/Sportscentre/Leafs and Jets regional broadcasts that are blacked out) and i bet Dreger ends up on snet or cbc ... yuck!

this could be good news ... sportsnet can win some brownie points and do the right thing by getting the right people to replace the dead weight on HNIC

As part of 12-yr $5.2-bil #NHL broadcast deal, #Rogers will assume all editorial control, including #HNIC and on-air talent.
