thats in reference to sentiment that the cap floor will be at the level of this years ceiling within 3 years

Well, the point of all of this is that, it's not about necessarily having the cap floor going up or the salary cap in general, it's how teams spend the money - if you have teams having to give big contracts and wasting money on depth players, that's how lockouts take place - all these big contracts cause lockouts to take place because teams take advantage of the upped salary cap and they tend to do dumb things

There are going to be several teams struggling to reach the cap floor in a couple of years - Heck, it's already the case for a couple of teams already.

EXACTLY

which is why we should remember that quote from Daly ... when this cba comes to a close ... the NHL position will be that those small market teams are struggling financially because the linkage between the cap % and revenue is SUDDENLY out of whack

wash ... rinse ... repeat

Yeah the NHL is pretty shady, I won't believe any of the stuff Bill Daly and company are saying

I have no problem with the cap going up 4-5 million, from 66 to about 70-71 million, that's just enough to be able to make 1, maybe 2 more signings/deals to help teams, but there's no reason for the cap to go up to 80 million, I'd hate that - people think the cap going up to 80 million is great, but it's not

Especially the agents of plugs who are having good years.

Those are the worst, those contracts are the ones that kill the league - I don't mind the big time guys getting big contracts(although those 8-10 year deals in the past were outrageous) because those are guys that deserve it based on consistency - but 3rd liners who all of a sudden have a big year, they want all kinds of money and some idiot GM would give it to him

its great because its a sign that revenues are increasing ... the linkage is there ... the owners agreed to this fuckin deal ... they said they made this deal with the small markets in mind ... if they couldnt correctly factor in that small markets would suffer with increased total league revenue, then they agreed to a bad deal OR theyre not doing enough revenue sharing to prop up the dog markets

so yah the owners will take this fucker to a lockout again in order that plugs arent getting salary increases to what publically may seem like an unreasonable amount but actually is what the market bears when the players are getting a proportionate agreed upon cut of revenue

I guess we'd prefer that the owners kept getting a higher % infinitum than the plugs ... keep grinding down that player percentage :noidea:

When you have a lower salary cap, it prevents GM's/teams from doing dumb shit, when you up the salary cap, players get more money, but plugs get more money and it kills teams for years to come and then the teams want lockouts again after they signed those players to ridiculous contracts

It's both the league and the teams faults - they're both shady and they want to backtrack after they've made mistakes of their own

what mistakes are the players making???? also how are the players shady?

you cant keep squeezing players by taking away their % of total revenue for stupid personnel decisions by teams

today Daly said the linkage between reveue and salaries is good ... dont bring that shit up that its not in 7 years

I didn't say anything about the players - if I was the players I'd try to get the biggest contract possible - it's the GM's/Owners who are shady and hypocritical - the owners want lockouts after they've signed new CBA's because they know that the deal isn't going to work out for them so they want it their way - and the GM's are shady as well because they sign guys to unnecessary contracts and then want lockouts so they can fix their mistakes and be able to use the buyout provision on guys so that they have a second chance - I am all for players getting as much $ as they can when they get the chance, it's not their fault that the GM's sign them to these stupid contracts

Here's the simple thing: GM's need to get their head out of the fucking ass and stop overpaying for players that aren't worth their salary - be honest with yourself and don't try to backtrack after screwing up, if you made a mistake, own up to it and don't do it again - for the owners, you signed a deal, you understand the risks and you know that the $ can change during the course of the contract, own up to it and go on with it, stop trying to change shit every 10 years

my bad ... I misread this ( It's both the league and the teams faults - they're both shady ) and thought you included players

I dont blame the players for anything they get

the management makes the personnel decisions ... they need to fit the players under the cap ... if youre overpaying 1 plug ... you need to underpay someone else or youre in trouble

the owners prerogative is to eternally squeeze the players % of total revenue and that makes lockouts inevitable

Maybe this is why players ask for more money, because they know that the owners try to squeeze as much money out as possible?

If that is the case, then the owners need to quit being greedy, because maybe that affects GM's ability to do certain things?

I guess it's a double edged sword, stupid mistakes that GM's make tend to force owners to do stupid things, and vice versa - if people would actually be smart for once, it wouldn't be this bad, but hey, I guess all this is easy to say when you're an outsider and you're seeing what's happening from an outsiders view

everybody remember this quote when the next lockout comes

James Mìrtle ‏@mirtle 43m Bill Daly says the league is not concerned about the cap getting really high here: "The cap is a function of revenues."

it's the hill of money we die on
