From that same article:

A player is eligible for an extension after the third year of their rookie contract is complete. ... Why would a franchise extend a player with two years remaining on their deal?

Wait a minute... if PE1 is correct and first round picks only sign a four year deal and they can only be eligible for an extension after year 3 how can a player have “two years remaining on their deal!”

WTF is this writer talking about PE1?

You’re an uneducated dumbass who has wasted his life and you’re a fucking liar.
The guy is just a dumb fuck. He either has a compulsive need to prove to himself his own worth, to the point of trickery and manipulation, or he is a sociopath, devoid of logical self assessment. Either way, he needs to seek help.

Idk there was an entire part of the article talking about a 5th year, which didnt make a lot of sense to me because rookies only sign 4 year contracts, why are they talking about a 5yh year

Because teams have there rights for 5 years. But they are only allowed to sign 4 year deals.

Maybe this will help you.

If it's in the CBA it's in their contract.

It is in their 4 year contract. That’s true. Teams have their rights for 5 years but they only sign 4 year deals. It will be determined later if the team just keeps the original 4 year contract or if they add on a year. It is not know year 1 of the deal so that why it’s a 4 year deal.
Having rights to a player is not a contract.

But instead of taking the league contractual deal saying “Rookies 1st rounders sign 4 year deals” and reading an actual NFL player agent say “Rookies 1st sign for year deals” everyone ignores the FACT and tries to say “rights” is a contract when it’s not.
For all the rookies who don’t get extended they just serve out their 4 YEAR DEAL and move on.

You need to learn about CBAs.

Having a players rights means you alone get to negotiate a new.contract with them nefore any other team can. There is no negotiating rhe rookie contract bwcause it is a 5 year contract with the 5th year being a team option. This has been explained to you numerous times but you the very definition of a blithering idiot. Im done, its like trying to talk to the dumbest rock in the rock quarry.

He needs to learn what makes a contract a contract.

This conversation should be the simplest thing to understand yet his stupidity is impressively astounding.

It says a lot when you can’t admit you’re wrong to a bunch of anonymous people on the internet. He must be a nightmare to deal with in real life.

If I understood contracts. Fucking hilarious. You can’t understand that having the rights to a player is not a contract.

I have not seen one person on this entire thread state that rights are a contract.

They mean a player can not sign a contract with a team if another team owns their rights.

Nobody but you has brought rights into this discussion. The discussion is about options/extensions, which are part of the original contract. And when options are exercised, they extend the length of the original contract. So if you think this is wrong, then prove it is wrong. With a link to a credible website.

It has been explained to you from the contractual agreement and from NFL agents that “rights” are not a contract and that they sign 4 year deals.

It’s trickery to post the contractual language? That’s a good one.

Ok, let’s talk about extension then. If the rookie first round pick is extended a year it’s they play for 5 years right? So the four year contract they signed was later extended.
That’s the proof right there. There for year contract was extended to 5. That’s why they sign 4 year deals because we don’t know if the team will choose to keep it 4 years or extend it.
But I’m the dumb one.

Yep cause they don’t know an option is not a contract.
Your boss has you sign a 4 year contract. He says at the end of the 4 years o have the option to send you to Hawaii or just keep it at 4 years. Did you just sign a contract saying you’re going to Hawaii? Nope. You signed a 4 year contract and your boss will let you no if he adds on to the deal.
