I wanted someone who can be scratched on case Alt or Ghost make the jump. Schultz will do

He's a decent AHL player, it'll be nice to see the AHL team be better next season

Shultz is a terrible signing. He even looked bad compared to the other Oilers d-men. WTF? Paul, are you still calling the shots behind the scenes?

Having ranted about that, someone is on the move and soon. Probably tomorrow. Wait. Today.

Terrible signing? Someone who at best will be a 6th d-man? He's a guy that they'll be able to scratch and if he has to play in a game he'll be able to handle it well - that's what you want from a 6-7 d-man

I like all these signings so far. Lots of depth guys who will spend most of their time with the phantoms insulating and protecting our young guys. Part of having good prospects is having a good farm team and the phantoms have not been one. They've been carrying guys who should be in the ECHL for years. Bringing in veterans is the right move.

That's what was said about Gervais, too.

I see Schultz as an improvement over Hal Gill in the 7 spot. Gill played approximately 98 minutes of hockey last season.

If they use this signing to justify moving Grossmann for picks, then I'll have issue with it.

Gill was actually an 8, correct? Gus was the 7.

We'll revisit this if and when Schultz is forced into the line-up for any length of time.

ya, 7/8 I guess. depended on who they took out of the lineup (gil was the pylon replacer, gus for undersized-mobility).

and hopefully he's not forced in to the line-up for any length of time, he's a 'just in case' signing. when someone goes down, there's going to be a noticeable drop off regardless of who is behind him. hopefully the gap between regular and replacement is a little smaller with Schultz than it would be with lauridsen (continuing on this 'position' being a pylon replacer)

Band aids to much bigger problems.

that's exactly what it is. the solution to the bigger problems lies with morin, hagg, ghost, sanheim, and company, NOT free agency or trades. signings like Schultz are 1 year band-aids until the youngsters are ready.

key to the deal IMO is that it's 1 year.

It's like a worn bandaid from someone with HIV IMO.

he's gunna play like 20 games tops, probably 10 minutes/game. it's really not that big of a deal.

if only there was a rob scuderi available we could've signed on the cheap as a Band-Aid
