I just hope this isnt for Brad Richards. I will be saddened to give him tons of money.

i would rather it be for brad richards if it meant keeping giroux, jvr, shenn, and couturier..

of course, if richards gets signed to anything over 7 we'd have to clear just as much space anyway

I highly doubt we would ever dump any one of those guys for nothing.

we are talking about trading for stamkos.. a top 3 player in the NHL.. anything is possible

I wouldn't set an alarm because he has no idea when it will be let out. Just knows that something has already happened and should be announced tomorrow or else I look like a rumor troll.

And again, this could be completely un-stamkos related, it's just something is happening. My guess is we found a suitor for versteeg and/or carle.

How does trading for his rights negate RFA status?

it doesnt negate is RFA status, but it would get the acquiring team off the hook for the 4 draft picks if they signed him

hm.. i think maybe there's been some miscommunication here haha.. phaith were concerned about the RFA status in case the flyers traded for him and he didn't sign with the flyers? to make sure the flyers would get 4 firsts if they couldn't end up signing him?

oops. haha.

So why would the Bolts give up the 4 1st round picks to trade away the rights?

I don't see any scenario where either team would want to make a trade just for the rights. Either Philly would have to gut their team (considering Carter/Richards are already gone) to have no sure thing of signing him and/or having to overpay him since Stamkos would be in the strong bargaining position and the team would have a shortened time table. Or Tampa Bay would have to walk away from four 1st round picks.

How does this idea make any sense for either team?

It looks to me if this is true the Flyers traded Richards & Carter for prospects/young players & picks in order to acquire Steven Stamkos. So basically it would be something like Schenn, Voracek, Couturier & a 1st round pick for Stamkos.

That doesn't make sense either. No team is going to make multiple trades to acquire guys for a trade with another team (TB) that has the ultimate say so in the situation. This just seems like hopeful rumors that don't pass the sniff test.

Here's the deal. Philly is apparently prepared to offer Stamkos a 12 year 115 million dollar contract.

Tampa has three options.

1.They can match it & will have a week to do so.

2.They can let the week pass without matching the offersheet & accept 4 1st round picks for Stamkos.

3.They can make a trade with Philly before July 1st & avoid the offersheet being presented to Stamkos.

I am guessing if we go the trade for rights route, it will indeed have to cost something significant since we would now be the holder of his rfa status. Now I am not so much a fan of this idea since it will/should have a heavy price tag.

Agree. The Flyers won't sign the offer sheet unless the know he wants to play in Philly. I still think he will end up in Toronto, Buffalo, or possibly the NYR. Im praying that the Flyers have backup plans to resign Leino and other FA if this falls through. It seems that all the focus is on Stamkos. It would suck to lose out on both parts.

Buffalo isn't going to get him. We have no cap space. Even with being allowed to go 10% over the cap during the offseason we only have $13.5 million available after you deduct our RFA offers we've handed out. Now deduct Ehrhoff money, say $5.8 million, off of this and we only have around $7.7 million free in capspace FOR THE OFFSEASON. and would have to be at the cap, by October.

I thought the Penguins were letting their superstar walk for Stamkos! Why else would there be rumors about Talbot going to Toronto?
