Flyers really want Stamkos

Might as well throw a huge offer sheet at Stamkos - just to force Yzerman to match. This would effectively eliminate Tampa Bay from the free agent market for years to come.

Steve Yzerman is just getting his feet wet, but with his education/the people he knows, he will only take Tampa further away from any kind of elimination. Maybe it will slow down or stop future dealings with the Flyers, but that's about it.

i dont think it will happen, i'm not going to say 100%.. but i doubt it..

i'm just trying to figure out if that's something i would want the flyers to do, given the opportunity.. the rumored 9.5 mil a year contract scares the bejesus out of me, to go along with seeing carle/versteeg/4 picks or giroux or jvr/shenn + versteeg and probably still some picks is a lot of sacrifice.. but stamkos is a quality player.. i'm just not sure if i want this to happen, regardless of if it could or not haha

I think most of us can agree that at that level, most stars have retired having won at least one championship. We can all make great cases about the stars that never won Cups in their careers, but I think we'll find more that have. That goes for most pro sports.

my lean is towards no.. if you look at the flyers cap situation, they have 6 something available right now.. but thats with johan backlund, michael leighton, and matt walker on the roster. assuming they get waived and play in the A like they did this year, that leaves them with a little over 8 mil.. the problem is, voracek and simmonds both came over as RFA's.. so you figure the minimum it would take for them to sign both of them would be 4 mil.. so we'll start there

now there's two ways the flyers could get stamkos

1. Offer Sheet

-Right off the top thats 4 first round picks
-The rumored deal is for a 9.5 cap hit, so they have to move 5.5 in space
-Versteeg and Carle make a little over 3, so you could clear it with them
-I'm not going to work out further than that, but they may have to clear a little more salary to fit in replacements, waiving jody shelley is an option here.

Summary: 4 1st rounders, versteeg and carle for stamkos and very modest returns on the salary dumps where the flyers would have 0 negotiating power

2. Trade
-Tampa is going to ask for nothing short of JvR+Shenn or Giroux as a starting point
-Flyers will have to throw in more salary, probably versteeg or carle again, just to fit him under because giroux and shenn make around 3, jvr makes 1.6
-They might want a pick or two on top of that

Summary : Giroux or JvR+Shenn, versteeg/carle, and a pick or two, for stamkos

Broad Summary: i dont think he's worth that.
