I think you're right, Philly. I don't think anyone in the division wants to see Stamkos 6 times a year. Maybe the Capitals take Versteeg...

Might as well throw a huge offer sheet at Stamkos - just to force Yzerman to match. This would effectively eliminate Tampa Bay from the free agent market for years to come.
And if they dont match take 4 1st from you and watch you try to complete your roster?

Yup. Trading Versteeg while letting Leino walk would do the trick. It would be a steep price, no doubt, but it's something Homer would have to think about. However, like many have said, I think Yzerman will match whatever is thrown his way.
exactly.. highest i'd go with an offer sheet is 8 mil.. and i dont even know if i would do that.. thats a big contract + 4 first rounders..
just look what trading 2 (+the most recent 1st round draftee) for pronger did to the flyers farm system
I don't think for a minute this will happen, but I'll play into the fantasy. With the Richards/Carter deals, the Flyers have essentially restocked their depleted farm system. They now have two bona fide prospects in Schenn and Couturier - and Bob is still a piece to consider. In regards to Stamkos, it comes down to his negotiating rights. You are either trading for them, or holding out on an offer sheet. At this point, trading for said rights would put them back at square one - because Yzerman would reel in AT LEAST Bob, Schenn, and a first. But if you keep your recently rebuilt prospect pool, while also factoring in the Flyers youth, the four first round picks (a hard pill to swallow, nonetheless) wouldn't be the end of the world. Adding a world-class talent like Stamkos would put the Flyers roster into immediate contention, and theoretically banish said first-rounders to the back of the line (the 20-30 range).
Bob, Schenn & a 1st wouldn't get the Flyers Stamkos. An offersheet would give the Lightning 4 1st round picks.
If I were Yzerman I'd ask for Schenn, JVR, Voracek & a 1st round pick. If Holmgren says no I'd tell him go ahead & make your best offer. I'll match it & if I have to trade Stamkos I'm trading him somewhere else so don't bother calling me.
i would never do that deal.. then again i'm against teams built around a superstar.. its just too risky to give up that, plus the ridiculous contract, just to have 1 player that plays 20-24 minutes a game.. or less if he gets hurt..
teams built around a single superstar dont work..

4 1st's, ******** & Carle would suit me just fiiiiiine.
What team is? Most of those teams have multiple superstars...
thats was supposed to be my point.. perhaps it wasn't clear, apologies
but if the flyers were to acquire stamkos they would be left looking like the caps.. with 1 superstar (OV-Stamkos) and 1 guy that looks like it sometimes, or looks like he will be one (Backstrom - Giroux)
i think the caps have done well to show us that combination doesn't work. (sorry caps fans)
