Malcom Floyd - WR - Chargers

The Baltimore Sun reports that the Ravens have "strong interest" in free agent Malcom Floyd.
They clearly prefer Floyd to free agent Braylon Edwards. Floyd turns 30 before the season, but can stretch the field with a career yards-per-reception average of 17.27. He also broke into the league with the Chargers when Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron held the same position in San Diego back in 2004.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune's Judd Zulgad suggests the Vikings are still interested in free agent WR Malcom Floyd.
Zulgad isn't reporting that the two sides are in negotiations, but he warned not to "dismiss" reports that the Vikes are interested. Floyd would fill a major need as a vertical threat after the Vikings opted to replace Sidney Rice with blocking specialist Michael Jenkins. They'll have to outbid the Ravens to land him.

Not signing a WR or CB thus far has been pretty puzzling to me. Just can't understand how not one guy has been viewed as a worthwhile upgrade for either position...

Free agent WR Malcom Floyd is "nearing a decision," according to NFL.com's Jason La Canfora.
Floyd is the biggest free agent piece left on the market from a fantasy perspective. The Chargers are said to still be interested if the price is right, but the Ravens are among the front-runners. The Panthers, Cardinals, and 49ers are also in the mix. We're expecting Floyd to land with the highest bidder.

With 20+ million under the cap, you'd figure the Niners would have scrilla to parlay with.

It's probably a little under 15 now but still more than enough. I would really like to get Floyd. A huge deep threat would be very nice. Ginn just doesn't have the size or the hands.

I know the 49ers need a new wide reciever, but I am not so sure Floyd is the answer. I have a feeling that any team that gets him is going to vastly over pay for his services.

However being that we need a good #2 so bad I hope i am wrong and we get him.

Scary list there. It's either age, declining talent, or head cases with the exception of Naanee. Early also resigned with the Cards.

Steve Smith is coming off micro-fracture surgery and if signed would be on PUP for a while. Giants seems to be in a holding pattern on him. Manningham is getting his shot.

Yeah looking at that list makes going with what we got not look so bad. There is a couple that I would not be mad if we signed though.

Steve Smith if possibly would be the best option seeing that he's still pretty young

and by the time Kaepernick is ready to play he will have two good young recievers to throw to, allowing the 49ers to contend for the playoffs consistantly.

Kaepernick in my option was a great draft pick by you guys and he will definitely be your franchise guy.

I hope so, but even under his own admission Kaep knows he has a lot to learn. Having Harbs as the HC is a solid start unlike Alex S. who played for Nolan and then Singletary. My goodness, that's like a great center with tremendous post skills like Kareem or Shaq playing for Don Nelson.

Alex Smith was never a bad player, he just got screwed over by the musical chairs of offensive coordinators you guys had.

the good news is Kaepernick is willing to learn all he has to learn and is going to work very hard to be successful

and so far when he really wants something he acheives(pardon the likely misspelling) it(he wanted to beat us in college and you saw how that turned out last year).

The Ravens or Chargers will probably snatch up Floyd. I wouldn't mind us taking a shot at Steve Smith if the price was right. I'm sure he's going to want a big contract, though and the Giants would probably give it to him once he's healthy.

Idk, a big target like Floyd is alluring. They guy is 6'5 and would immediately provide us with the red zone threat we've been lacking for quite some time. Plus, Crabtree, Morgan, and Floyd wouldn't look too bad. Add the kid Johnson who we got in the draft and maybe we have a solid receiving core.

At the end of the day however, I don't think he signs with us...not for any reason in particular. But because we haven't been really successful in bidding against other teams for FA's.

TV I agree that Floyd has the size the 9ers need but I don't agree with you 2nd statement. Floyd is a native to Nor Cali and 9ers do have the cap space and need for his skills. Well we all can hope...

Malcom Floyd - WR - Chargers

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the Ravens are in the driver's seat for free agent Malcom Floyd.
According to the Tribune's Kevin Acee, Floyd appears to be "on his way out of town." The Ravens are reportedly willing to pay Floyd more than the $3 million a year the Chargers have said they will not go over. From the sound of things, Floyd could be a Raven by as early as this evening.

One would hope we are also willing to go over the $3 mil per year with A) all that cap room and B) the intention of him being #1.
