It’s not so much Gallagher’s height. It’s the fact that he’s losing his skates. The contact would have come at the chest (still a cross check. The contact wasn’t aimed at his face. But Fuck if I know. It seems like league action on this stuff is wildly inconsistent. When Ed Snider was alive the standard would have been “what fucks over the Flyers” but it seems like the league is better on that now.

They should have probably called a few things earlier in the game to stop some of the foolishness. I have no problem with the Kotkaniemi call but a few minutes later the refs allow (or completely miss) a Flyer cross check to the back on a Hab already engaged with another Flyer. Then they let numerous things on both sides go. Until they felt like calling something.

Oh well.

I agree. The most frustrating part of NHL officiating is the inconsistency. What’s a penalty in the regular season may not be a penalty in the playoffs. Or what’s considered a whistle in the first period is all of a sudden not a penalty in the third.

Totally agree.

The way playoffs are called now, a punch is NOT a penalty. Unless both players throw down and go at it.
