I don't know what motivated Don to say what he apparently did, but it wasn't too smart. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and say the media has blown his words out of proportion. I don't believe the owners will fire him, but if he insists on a big multi-year contract, they just may let him walk. His performance over the past 3 years doesn't warrant being fired, but on the other hand, he still hasn't proven himself either. The jury's still out, so to speak. I'm sure the owners have been and continue to look at all options.

You just said it. He's unproven. This new ownership group is spending too much money to have to rely on an unproven manager.

We beat a one-dimensional Braves team who won a horrible NL East and had no starting pitching.

Yes, the Braves were one-dimensional on offense and yes, the NL East was pretty bad this year, but the Braves actually had some good starting pitching during the regular season. It obviously wasn't as good as the Dodgers, but it was probably in the Top 5 of the NL.

I also see you keep posting Mattingly has never made the WS as player, coach, or manager. Why do you find this to be a reason that he will never make it? Joe Torre never made it as a player and he did not make it with the first three teams he managed. Terry Francona never made it as a player, a coach, and he did not make it with the Phillies. I'm sure you could find many other examples.

You make a good point here. But the guys you list like Torre and Francona don't have a long list of failures such as Mattingly. Google "Curse of Mattingly". It's scary. And its a very long list.

Btw, I wasn't trying to knock your team. Just a frustrated Dodgers fan with 25 years of not getting it done. This team cant win the NLCS. We couldn't beat Philly in 08 and 09. Now we couldn't beat St. Louis. However, our rival, the SF Gnats can beat Philly and St. Louis in the NLCS and win the World Series as they've won 2 of e past 3. You guys can have Donnie, but don't send us Freddy.

Interesting comments by Mattingly. While I believe Mattingly will re-sign with the Dodgers, I also have to believe Kasten and company don't appreciate Mattingly essentially taking his case to the Public.

I don't really care about Mattingly speaking out publicly about his frustration with ownership ( he's entitled to his opinion like everyone else), but he's pissed off the very people he's appealing to to stay on board.

We should know how it all plays out in a few days.

I agree but he looked like a total idiot saying his frustration to the media another boneheaded move by him what's new?

He should know better & keep things like this behind closed doors & not add more drama :L

I guess I didn't realize it before that the Yankees went to the WS in 1981 before Mattingly was on the team and then didn't make it again until the year after he retired. When he came back as a coach in 2004, we all know what happened that season. I also found this link from Google:

Uncle Mike's Musings: A Yankees Blog and More: The Curse of Donnie Baseball: Believe It!

The article was also published just before the Yankees went to and won the WS in 2009, just two years after Mattingly left NY for LA. Interesting stuff.

I didn't take it as a knock. I agreed with you on the points the Braves were one-dimensional on offense and the NL East was pretty non-competitive this year. The Nationals weren't all that bad, but the Braves really did a good job at beating them in head-to-head matchups. The offense was something I was worried about from the start of the season. Everyone knew they were going to strikeout a lot. I thought if they could make it to the postseason, they would struggle once they faced better pitching and they did.

I was hoping the Braves could have held on to best record in NL because I thought they would have matched up better against the Wild Card team, but oh well. I knew the Dodgers were the better team going into the NLDS, and was just hoping the Braves could advance but not expecting it. For what it's worth, after the Braves got eliminated, I was hoping to see a rematch of the 1988 World Series. It has been a while since both teams made it to the WS.

When Mattingly was speaking, the look on Coletti's face was priceless. Kind of one of these :L. Before that event, I think it was a given that management would invite Don back. Now it may be a tossup. You NEVER criticize your boss in public if you wish to keep your job. Donnie's opinions are valid. I'd probably feel the same way. But it is a discussion that should occur behind closed doors. The next few days should be interesting. Falsone got the axe, and others probably will too.

Numerous news articles today quoted Mattingly's agent as saying Don intends to come back in 2014 and fulfill his contract.

Which means the onus is now on the Dodgers to keep or fire him. We may still see him signed to a multi- year deal.

Same story, just a different season. And get rid of Colletti.

Not putting this series on him but World Series and Don Mattingly just don't go together. We will never win a World Series championship under Donnie Mattingly.
Kershaw blew two opportunities to beat the Cardinals. Don't blame the manager.

Mattingly got this team to the NL finals and you want him fired?

Mattingly is a moron who left him in too long. Anyone defending Mattingly just looks terrible.

Maybe Kershaw isn't the stud Dodgers fans thought he was.

Well, there is clearly something wrong with him when it comes to the playoffs. He turns into Chad Billingsley. But a couple of these outings with St. Louis over the past two playoffs would have looked much better had he been taken out earlier.
