Oooof......France loses 2-0 to Ukraine. Not insurmountable, but Ukraine is probably gonna play 9 defenders and 2 goalkeepers in the return leg.

France continues to amaze, they are just so much worse than the names on the squad should mean. Ribery, Nasri, Benzema, Lloris, Pogba......its possible every guy in their starting 11 today is a better individual player than his Ukrainian counterpart. Something is seriously wrong inside that team to produce such consistently dismal performances to inferior nations.

That one was a surprise to me. I thought a draw or maybe France down one goal. Still, the French have a chance at home.

If Sweden wins 2-1, Portugal wins since they captured the away goal and would be tied on total goals from both games.

Sweden is the home team now... they'll have to outscore Portugal by at least 2 goals in any result to win over Portugal or win 1-0 to force PKs

I watched the game.....the first half was cagey, but the second was truly exciting. The two best players in the world right now throwing haymakers. Ronaldo just too fast and unstoppable....his pace advantage over everyone else comes into play more often than Zlatan's size advantage over everyone else, which makes him the more decisive player.

And wow.....Sakho scores two goals to drive France's advance. PSG was absolutely idiotic to sell that guy.....he could be a national hero, starting for France and Paris for the next 10 years, but they're addicted to buying more and more new players they don't need, cutting everyone's playing time, and eventually he demanded to be let go. He and Varane should be an awesome CB pair for the next 3 or so World Cups for France, lots of strong youth in that team's pipeline.

I was out so only saw about 20 minutes of Portugal game. Renaldo looked great on his 3 goals. He did what needed to be done.

The French really surprised me. I figured it would take a miracle for them to come back, but they pulled it off. I agree with the thought that France has a lot of good young players. It should be good for a couple of Cup appearances.

Just my opinion, but I think Germany has the best chance of any European team to win in Brazil. In fact I only see 4 teams contending: Brazil, Argentina, Spain and Germany.
