So what is better diarrhea or vomit?
I still think Caleb can be really good. I don’t think there’s a qb in this draft that would’ve looked any better in chicago this year. What a train wreck…

Fields is still the player I always thought he was. A game manage with legs.

If you take away Williams hype. What do you see?
What I saw recently was a really inaccurate passer. Which is a bad sign.

Now I dont follow him nor the Bears so I dont know if this was just a bad game or the norm. If you want to take a positive from this. He is a passer. Not looking to run at 1st opportunity.

Fields I agree with you about. He is a perfect back up QB. mobile QB that can move chains with his legs when his QBing fails. Good enough to come in & keep team going if needed to finish a game.

I see a lot more good from Caleb than I did justin fields. That TD pass he threw against Seattle that called back is one that Justin would never even attempt in the nfl. I see that a lot. I see some errant throws, but I don’t see that as an accuracy issue as much as others. Sometimes, he’s throwing it away from the defender where his WR can only catch it and his wr can’t make the catch. Then he’s being rushed to make a throw on every pass given his league leading sack count.

If he had an oline that let him operate from the pocket, I think his stats would look very good this year. Instead, a lot of his passes are being thrown off balance while running away from defenders because he has no choice.

There’s a reason Belichek believed the bears was the favored head coaching spot in the nfl before he signed with unc. There’s a reason Pete Carroll is interested in the bears job. There’s a reason Ben Johnson is already rumored to be interested in the bears job. These men know much more about football than you and I. The reason for the interest is because Caleb looks like the real deal and that’s hard to find in the nfl.

This thread ended up being less funny than I intended. Fields having as many wins in six starts as Caleb has in sixteen wasn't supposed to be on the table. Or a better passer rating.

(We won't really know how good Williams is until he has an o-line that isn't a disaster. So far, though, he seems to lack grit.)

What i find funny about the O Line is that that was always considered Fields fault but this year its not lol.

The OLine wasn’t fields fault. Fields was not making passes he should’ve thrown. You can find an example of that here and there with Caleb, but it was routine for fields. I love fields for making bears football exciting while we rebuilt, but he’s not going to lead a team to the playoffs. Fields is a QB that you can win with. Caleb is a qb that can win you games you should lose. This year he’s put us in position to win games that the rest of the team and coaching blew (See Redskins, Packers, Lions, etc).

Caleb is going to be a better QB than Fields. Caleb has already thrown for more yards in a season and more TDs in a season than Fields has. It’s ridiculous the people calling Caleb a bust as a rookie. Fields we know isn’t capable of being a franchise QB and is mostly a glorified RB.

The bust talk is premature but just like Trevor Lawrence, Caleb came into the league with the hype of ”best prospect ever“ and has failed at every turn. He was supposed to be stepping into the best WR room of any Rookie QB this year(McCarthy excluded becauas he didn’t play) and it’s been laughably bad. He told essentially told his punter “we won’t be needing you” and they’ve punted more times than anyone could have imagined.

Point is he’s not a bust but he’s also not the savior people including himself said he be day 1.

I think the main reason people are calling him a bust is because of how hyped up he was. With a good coach and a better O-Line he’ll be fine IMO. Not every rookie can come in and play awesome like Stroud last year or Daniels this year.

Justin Fields QB rating in his rookie year: 73.2
Justin Fields QB rating last year as a Bear: 86.3
Caleb Williams QB rating in his rookie year: 87.4

League average QB rating was Kyler Murray so its a really high bar in the NFL that neither guy has hit. Id imagine the Bears should be slightly disappointed but also still optimistic.
