On Fedotenko and the Flyers...
I am hearing a familiar name mentioned around Flyers land today, and it is that of Ruslan Fedotenko. Rusty (his nickname) was a very popular player around these parts, and has been a Flyers killer since his departure. But also, he is Ukrainian...and you know who else is Ukrainian? Zherdev.
I am not saying the two are pals, (far from it) but what I am saying had been the biggest knock on Zherdev was his unwillingness to assimilate into North American culture in any way whatsoever. I have talked to many of his previous teammates who tried to bridge the gap and left more and more frustrated with Zherdev.
In Fedotenko the Flyers could get a very serviceable player who speaks Zherdev's language and could help him with the media and adjustments. Fedotenko has drawn interest from several other NHL teams and has at least one KHL suitor (but prefers to stay in North America, as he has lived in the U.S. since 1999 and his wife is American).
The Flyers would have to make some cap space, so it could be time to see if the LA Kings or Maple Leafs are still high on Dan Carcillo...
i like rusty in the past but really do we need a interpreter...lol...eklund...he's reaching here...lol
