FBI investigation: 20 programs named for players taking money

I'm not saying Coach K is dirty. But this is going to impact NCAA basketball like a ton of bricks. Coaches that are dirty will be out. The ones who weren't aware, well the programs could still get hit hard because if it's perceived your compliance dept was keystone cops on purpose, like USC's during the it's recent sanctions, then the NCAA can go to town on you.
They got extra nailed because their athletic dept compliance was purposely a joke to help with recruiting, massaging grades, and turning a blind eye to obvious players and their families getting money from agents, and sports apparel entities.

Even if the coaches and AD dept's weren't aware, if these players ultimately ended up being taken high in the NBA draft, the NCAA could hit them really hard. For example sake.

If it's pay outs in basketball, you sure as heII know it's happening in football too! But this is aII different than just NCAA sanctions, this is the FBI and criminal charges coming down the pike!

You can’t just blame the agents for this one.

The FBI has wiretaps of conversations between Arizona head coach Sean Miller and Christian Dawkins, a runner for ASM Sports, in which Miller talks about paying $100,000 to make sure current star freshman DeAndre Ayton landed with the Wildcats, according to an ESPN report.

I wondered how of all places, Arizona comes out of nowhere with a power program. If true, AZ and Miller might as well crawl into a time capsule and hope in 100 years everyone will forget.

If you receive dinner under $200 that’s impermissible benefits. You can have your eligibility restored upon repayment of that money. Does that mean they’re eligible again once they pay that money or they’re retroactively eligible?

I’m asking because I’m not sure if Brice Johnson cost us our national championship or if we have to wait until more information from the fbi shows we were involved in this corruption as well. Hard to believe that Louisville and Arizona were involved but not Michigan State, Duke, Kentucky and Carolina

I think a lot of you are wishful thinking on what the penalties are going to be. This is an AWFUL look for the NCAA and CBB. They're going to have to send a big time message to let schools/players know this is completely unacceptable behavior. I don't think suspending guys and making them pay back the money is going to do that. Frankly I'd be shocked if the penalties aren't more severe than anyone here has suggested . This is going to be looked at as an indictment of the entire sport as a whole so the punishment is going to have to be over the top if there's any hope of moving passed it quickly

I think it will be just the opposite. First this is just one small investigation into one little agency, and they already caught half of the blue bloods in the sport. Piss off all those fans and your revenue stream takes a hit. The NCAA cares more about that than they do a little thing like legitimacy or amateurish.

I think any penalties handed out will be retroactive, maybe forfeiting a couple early season wins or something. Going forward everyone will get a warning not to do this anymore and this is a clarification of misunderstood rules and a point of emphasis going forward. Or something like that.

Besides Miller obviously. He's gonna take the bullet for everyone. There's no ignoring that one.

At this point, I’d be ok with it. I know you hate Valenti, but it was brought up that Michigan State basketball is essential Michigan football. Heavily hyped, fails to meet expectations. What he has been doing isn’t working anymore and I am expecting another exit before the elite eight.

I think that's a bit of a stretch, MSU bball has still been pretty darn successful the past 10 years. Most of Izzo's runs are normally with lesser talent and disappointments when expectations are high. But UM has been virtually dead past 10 years.

This is a spread sheet uncovered by an FBI raid! We are getting ahead of ourselves a bit, but these violations aren't substantiated but aIIeged! Did the agent pay for meaIs? Did agents pay part of the meaI and the parent pay their share? Did the agent seek reimbursement when they didn't pay anything? Who knows? We have no comments from parents or kids here? Just a spread sheet from the FBI
