Not necessarily the best, but a list of my top five personal favorites:

1: A League of Their Own - I simply never tire of watching this movie.

2: Bull Durham - Not just a great baseball movie, but a reminder of when Costner didn't go through the motions.

3: The Natural: Baseball storytelling at it's finest. 'Nuff said.

4: Eight Men Out - IMO, the benchmark for writing and acting in a baseball movie. Loses points for the inevitable unhappy ending.

5: Major League - List would not be complete without it. The horrible sequels must never be spoken of again.

Honorable Mention: Moneyball - Another baseball movie that is well written and acted, and scores bonus points for Philip Seymour Hoffman as Art Howe.

Agree or disagree? What are your personal favorites?

Never have seen what anyone saw in The Natural...I just couldn't buy Redford in the role, he's anything but a natural baseball player, and if that doesn't work, the whole things falls apart for me.

1. Bull Durham
2. Major League
3. League of their Own
4. 42
5. Moneyball

Even though they don't make the list. . I'll watch "For love of the Game" and "Field of Dreams" every time I catch them on cable

I feel the same way about "Field of Dreams" that you do about "The Natural". It just never did anything for me. Another one I should've added to Honorable Mention is "The Sandlot".

I am a child of the 90's so i love angels in the outfield, rookie of the year, the sandlot, and little big league...

Surprisingly little big league might be the best "BASEBALL" movie... not the best movie though... It might be the most accurate and authentic baseball movie of them all...

Major league, though is my favorite baseball movie and major league 2 is my 2nd favorite... The only movie mentioned on this thread that i would not have on the top 10 would be 42...

I'm curious Spiller, why not 42? My confusion stems from your praise of Little Big League being an accurate portrayal of baseball, and 42 is about as accurate as you can possibly get, with only minor "Hollywood dramatazations". Not trying to start a big debate, as everyone's favorite is totally thier own opinion and there is no right or wrong, just curious as to why 42 doesn't cut the mustard for you.

Huh. Now that you guys mention it, I have not yet seen "42", "61" or "Trouble with the Curve".

Must rectify that. Wonder if any of them are on Netflix...

I did praise little big league for being accurate, but that was not why i loved it, just a factor to it... I did enjoy 42 but i can easily give 10 baseball movies that are better IMO...

My biggest problem with 42 that the main 2 characters had absolutely no progression or change to their character... Jackie robinson was portrayed a saint throughout the movie, and never said one thing bad about him... same with Branch Rickey... It is a true story, i can not only believe the positives about these characters...

My top ten is

1. Major league
2. Major league 2- had better one liners than major league one just not as good of a story
from 3-10 is interchangable
3. The natural
4. League of their own
5. Field of dreams
6. 8 men out
7. The sandlot
8. Angels in the outfield
9. little big league
10. rookie of the year

Next 6
Bull Durham- could easily be top 10, just was not a fan of it when younger
Mr. 3000
the rookie- bit of a guilty pleasure
61- interchangabley top 10
Cobb
Money ball-

not sure if Baseketball counts but that would also be on my list...

42 is not even in my top 16 baseball movies... but i did like it alot....

Maybe i just considered 42 more of a human rights movie than a baseball movie

1. Major League - the easy pick, but hard to deny
2. Moneyball - loved being in the scout room, Jonah Hill was fantastic
3. Bang the Drum Slowly - DeNiro and Moriarty were a great duo
4. Bull Durham - another one pretty tough to leave off any best lists
5. The Rookie - Dennis Quaid made you root for him in this true story

Trouble With the Curve is a decent flick. I like how the new methods of baseball scouting fought over old school tactics.
