Assuming McCarthy is a competent NFL level starter, offensively they will be fine for a good 3-4 years, cap wise. Defensively, I would assume that side of the ball is going to be somewhat neglected for a while. Good for fantasy, not so good for the Vikes overall

Well, i guess that's where the Vikings lost me. Cousins was better than average imo (& underrated) so McCarthy would have to be arguably elite to make that offense hum like Cousins did.

He's not, but he's immensely cheaper. It has nothing to do with talent. If they would have paid Kirk Cousins what the Falcons did then they probably couldn't have resigned Jefferson.

He's essentially the exact same as Cousins- in regards to his actual game, physical abilities and what not, things he can physically do and that can be inarguably measured, there's very similar. Cousins was never the most physically gifted QB, plenty good enough, but never anything exceptional. But the dude had the mental aspect down, and he compiled.

For certain, McCarthy is not on Cousins' level right now, probably won't be for some time-if ever.

But like Bandit said, he's definitely cheaper, and he has that dreaded P word- potential. Potential to be better than Cousins, maybe?

Keep holding out hope a training camp injury forces another team's hand into a lopsided deal that Cincy can't say no to and sing a big extension with them, or report and play out the contract, become a UFA and see what the market holds for you. Probably never getting #1 money in Cincy
