Oh boy another problem. I've picked up Collins earlier where ever I could.

Seth Meyers Wtf GIF by Late Night with Seth Meyers

Pats cut Gilmore and Dallas cuts Smith
Smith can't cover anyone this year, and hasn't been around the ball constantly like he always has been..plus Micah Parsons made one of their high dollar LB's expendable

I get Parsons being good but Smith has still graded out very well according to PFF. Granted I know that isnt the final say but if he gets in the right spot he could excel. 82.2 in coverage

't
He just hasnt been that guy that got the huge contract this year. Dude was a stud for 3 straight years, he just hasn't been the same this year.

And I'm wondering if there wasn't some "personal" issues between he and MM or other coaches. They started out the year rotating LVE, Smith, and Parsons in different packages, he wasn't being used as an every down LB like he had been, perhaps he had issues with his role on the team and requested a trade/release. I do know that he was rumored to be on the trade block after the draft as well.

Dallas also brought in Keanu Neal to play LB and he's recovering/should be activated soon too, further limiting Smith's future snaps.

PFF ranks are nice to look at, but in the end of the day, its still a statistical analysis, which isn't the full picture in team sports.
Example: if there are pass plays where Smith should've broken it up, but instead he gets a solo tackle...is that viewed negatively by PFF rating system? Cause it definitely would be by DAL coaches.

He has sucked since getting his big contract. I dont know how PFF grades, but he will literally run himself out of a play before it develops.
He has no instincts which if I had to guess were covered up when Lee was orchestrating the defense. Got a big head after getting his money & was one of the worst LBs out there. Granted this year he has played better than last year but that is a low bar to hurdle. I didnt want him on the team at the start of the season, but apparently he got his contract guaranteed because he went & got wrist surgery (something in the contract) so they kept him to see how the young guys worked out. Young guys worked out fine & Cowboys (I am guessing) decided to cut bait before he had another "injury" that would guarantee next years salary. I & most likely all Cowboy fans are happy he is no longer on the field for us. IF PFF is saying he played well, then I now know not to ever pay attention to PFF for how they grade LBs!
I would be okay if he went to the packers. Would love for our team to play against him.

Jerry prob called 5-10 teams, if not 25-30 over the last week to see if he could get a 5th or 6th round pick for Smith.
Gilmore went for a 6th, so Smith getting outright cut makes sense in the valuation of things.

I'm sure he called every team not in the NFC east, or on the non divisional.schedule this year

I've always felt he was miscast as an NFL inside LB. With his speed and athleticism, I'd have lived to have seem him as an OLB who's primary duty would be rushing the passer, and on occasion covering RB's and TE's. Like Schmoopy said, he would often times run himself out of plays and be completely in the wrong places on many running plays

I would love him as the Cover ILB for the Packers.

Since i am bored at the moment, let me just throw my typical rant in here that this may be a case of having an exceptional college career based on his speed and athleticism, which, compared to other college athletes, he was above average.

While speed and athletislcism is important, in the NFL, more is necessary since everyone else around you is fast and athletic. Sounds like he may be lacking in the "other" area.

Oh no doubt, you're %100 right, which was why he was often running himself out of plays and out of position...lacking in the "other" area.
To me, being an OLB, primarily rushing the passer, would significantly cut down on the need for the "other" area, just, go get the QB...simple

I haveTy'son Williams in a couple redraft leagues. With Jimmy G getting hurt yesterday, now I feel dumb for dropping Trey Lance to pick up Williams. I do have Herbert already, though.
Gonna hole Ty'son fer 1 more week.................at least......................lol.

Williams also allows on coming rushers and blitzers free access to the QB. You can average 10 YPC and if you can't pass pro you don't play much. Plenty of guys aren't great at pass pro and still play, but Williams is a whole other level of bad at pass pro
I totally agree with that but I have to ask.............what the fuck was he doing on the field on the last drive when the Tuckster hit the GW FG? IIRC he was blocking and not running routes.............
