A useful idiot.
The best thing that could happen for the Pens today long term would be to not sign Parise. I don't understand why everyone is on pins and needles about it.

Best thing short term would be sign Suter and Parise, though. Sure, they'd murder the cap in the future, but they'd go to Cup frontrunner like THAT. Plus, they have some solid Dmen who are stuck on ELCs for the next three years, so they can go a little nutso on the other guys.
Prust to MTL, 4 years 10M
Agree on Suter, not on Parise. Again, scoring goals not their issue. They have bad blue liners and a mediocre goalie. They have the horses up front, they showed that this past playoffs. Parise will help them lose 8-7. D help would help them win 5-3.
I guess I'm a little burned on all the chatter around what big free agent the Pens are gonna sign the last couple offseasons.
I'm more curious about some of the role players different teams are going to get.
One thing you've got to remember post Staal trade, the dynamic of the team has changed quite a bit.
No longer is the bulk of the payroll tied up in three centers. I look for them to establish a solid two line combination. Parise would help accomplish that.

Jordan Staal made $4mil per. It was never tied up in three centers, it was tied up in two. It's the same team, just with shittier defenders than their Cup run years. I said years ago losing Scuderi was a huge loss. They should focus on their blue line. Parise is going to be overpaid big time. He's going to get top 5 player dollar when he's around the bottom of the top 20.
If I were a rising franchise, I'd want him, but I don't think he's a good buy for well anchored teams.
It depends on the terms. Parise can help us prevent goals, not just score them. Detroit stopped goals through simple puck possession for years, for example.
Which is what you already lost in Jordan Staal (probably a better defender than Parise), so no gain there. Their defensive problems aren't with their forwards. It's the blue liners.
