Who's Paula Pacshe? I never heard of her. Apparently she's from the freep, and says Lions are expected to release Bush, Jones, Tulloch, and Pettigrew on Monday.

I can understand the first 3. But doesn't BP save very little by cutting him?

she writes for them on occasion, Pasche. Petti is only a 800k savings... cutting Jones at this point means, IMO, Mayhew/Caldwell are more than confident in Taylor and Webster... not sure about that move, cutting Jones... getting ready to tag Suh ? reason for these possible cuts

Maybe these cuts might also be happening due to Mayhew going after a certain FA C, formerly with KC ? ........ or he'll be a dumbass and try to sign Iupati...

Yea, if they cut Pettigrew, its definitely positioning for a possible Suh tag scenario, IMO. I don't like Pettigrew, didn't like giving him $4 mil a year, but for only 800k? He's worth that strictly as a run blocking TE.

agree with petti being worthy of keeping for a mere 800k in cap savings....

Did you notice that the Lions have fulfilled their roster (51 man limit) with PS players... they were short 10 players previously... all the way at the bottom.. OL-Williams, OL-Cave, TE-Thompson, DT Philon, DT- Proctor, WR- Peacock, ILB- Harris (bama guy), DT Momah, WR- Dawson, DT- Hyder

I can understand cutting players to sign Suh, but let's not blow up the franchise to tag a guy.......I'll wait till something is concrete.

I'd welcome Jones and/or Tulloch back at the right price, and cutting Pettigrew for only $800,000 doesn't add up, but I'm down with jettisoning Bush for sure...

according to Over-The-Cap, The Lions currently have 55 men on their roster... Guys I missed were Crezdon Butler, Jermelle Cudjo, Emil Egwenanu and Taylor Boggs.... so their 55 man roster comes to 127,395,297 MM.... figure in the cuts as pre-June 1st and that's a savings of 8,872,058M... bringing the cap # down to 118,523,239M with exactly a 51 man roster minus the four named below

Tully ........3.200,000M
Jones....... 3.150,000M
Bush.........1.722,058M
Petti............800,000K

gotta agree with you now, 2cents.... they're are preparing for the possibility of tagging Suh

they have to be in compliance with the top 51

upon further review, they'll need to trim some more fat off that 118M to get under tha cap regarding Suh's tag at 26.9M.... that'd put them over 145M

Jones is a steal at his salary. If released, a dumb move on a thin line.

Won't miss any of them. It's already shaping up to be a good off-season. The Jones and Pettigrew cuts are head scratchers though.

I think $4 mil is pretty good value for Jones. If that were a steal, he should have no problem getting $5 or $6 mil from another team, which I don't see happening at all. That being said, he's much like Joique. Solid player, but far from irreplaceable. If it means we keep Suh, I'll help pack his bags.

Ok, an update. After getting home from work, I read the article, and Pasche's chat transcript. The guy on Facebook I read the headline from misquoted her. She says Lions LIKELY to release those guys. Not "expected". My bad. Id have to disagree with her about BP, though. But maybe.

I would not be surprised to see all but BP let go.

George Johnson was a beast when he was in there and not just against the pass so losing Jones does not hurt especially if it means keeping Suh. Even Fluellen is a poor mans Jason Jones. Nothing wrong at all with Ziggy and GJ at DE and Suh and Mosely at DT.

I would be more than happy to give Bush the news. He regressed back to what he was before Miami. His hands are terrible as well. Tully is a question mark because of the injury. If not for that I would still want him back for sure.

No surprises there. Jones is just ok. No sacks until week 8, and finished w 5, 1 behind George Johnson.

Tulloch was Schwartz's guy. Solid tackler but not worth keeping at his age following that injury. Our LBs played just fine.

Bush is a no brainer.

Pettigrew doesn't seem to fit into this system.

Gotta remember that we play two different style DEs in Austin's defense, though. Jones is the only guy on the D-line regularly asked to two-gap against the run, that's why he's always on the strong side. You need a big "5 technique" DE to play that position. I loved the season Johnson had, but he's not a direct replacement for Jones. Fluellen would be much closer, and your comparison there was apt, imo...

speaking of that 5 technique DE.. One kid that I find quite interesting for LDE in this draft is Oregon's Arik Armstead... just a thought... He needs some refinement in technique but man is this kid powerful and explosive....some have him as a 3-4 DE. He's much better than Devin Taylor from an athletic standpoint and his motor is non-stop, unlike Taylor, who is hot and cold

Taylor is pretty athletic for a big dude, but Armstead seems to play with a better base and keep his feet under him better. I'd love to add him to our D-line, but it would have to be with that #23 pick, because I don't think he'd be there in the 2nd for us. Adding him to the 6'7" 275 lb Taylor, and the 6'6" 278 lb Ansah, and the 6'7" 265 lb Webster, and the 6'5" 276 lb Jones would give us a monster squad of DEs, that's for sure...

This only happens if we release Jones. Cant see it any other way. I also think we may even move Ziggy to the left side. He can play any position on the line.
