There's no reason for Cooke to lift his leg as he's going in.

He tried to knee a guy, which is dangerous, and a guy got hurt. Surprise, sur-fucking-prise.

Is it a coincidence that these things happen with Cooke? NO. Is it a surprise that they often involve the star player on the other team? NO.

He's a fucking coward who cheapshots players who are better than him. This trend won't change. The next time a two-bit pest injures Sid or Geno, I want no whining from Pens management. If you employ these types of players you are condoning attacks on star players.

I Just wish Neil hadn't showed as much restraint. Unlike Cooke HE'S never been suspended, ie. he's a real hockey player.

The replay also clearly shows a coming down of Cooke's foot. I'm pretty confident that he wasn't trying to cut Karlsson. He was, however, trying to make Karlsson lose his balance by hitting the back of his skate.

Slewfoot/kick.

Piece of shit.

He's a piece of shit. Always has been, always will be.

Fuck Cooke. Fuck the Pens.

Hope Karlsson gets better soon. He's the most entertaining defenceman to watch in the league today.

I really looked hard at this and don't think it was anything more than an unfortunate accident.

I would still suspend Cooke though for being loaded and not getting those antlers in his mouth fixed. Eeesh, he is tough to watch talk.

What really sucks for Karlsson is that the play should have been blown dead about 10-15 seconds before that. The officials missed the puck hit the netting behind the goal when the sens were in the pens end.

Gotta say - very classy of the fans to boo as the guy skated back to the bench on one leg.

Bullshit. Hundreds. Go to the 0:16 mark. I'd almost understand the momentary impulse if the Pens were about to score, but the puck is in the neutral zone. And it's not like Karlsson wasn't obviously in distress.

That sucks, I like Karlsson. Hope he can make a quick recovery.

It was more than that but it doesn't matter. Don't you know the rules, if one fan yells something its fair game to taint the entire fan base for such acts. The only stipulation is that it has to be a fan of a team you don't like.

Whether it's deemed deliberate or not I think that is worthy of at least some suspension no matter who it is. At best, he was being reckless. At worst, he was intentioanlly playing dirty. The act, the result, and the intent usually all come into play. Nodody except him knows the intent but the act and the result were both bad. If deemed unintentional that's worthy of a light suspension in my opinion (or in this case as light as appropriate for a repeat offender). If it's deemed intentional that should be a huge suspension. I'm thinking it might have been somewhere in between those 2 scenarios. I'm not sure he intended to do exactly what happened but I'm not convinced his intentions were entirely good either.

he won't get anything because that play (the now-trademarked "half slew foot") is not an illegal play under the rules.
it should be, but it's not.

the cut was completely accidental. Not sure how you could argue otherwise.
however, it is a dangerous play for reasons additional to lifting your skate off of the ice. (driving someone's knees into the boards)

Hahaha. Yeah because.... hey!

All I'm trying to say is that any franchise that would ever employ Matt Cooke is worthless!! ;)

You guys need to watch this clip:

Huge Loss - TSN Video

It's a freak accident, guys. These analysts are good - we're not talking Mike Milbury. And they have no reason to defend Cooke, espeically Aaron Ward. The fact is, players lift their leg for balance or to pin the opposition all the time. It's not an unusual play, just a freak accident.

I don't blame Sens fans for seeing intent, just like I don't blame the Pens fans who thought Steckel on Crosby was intentional - both were just weird plays. It's tough to lose your star player, especially one who's got as much potential as Karlsson.

Hope he takes his time to get back to 100%.

As some others have pointed out here... a damn shame that play was allowed to continue after the puck was obviously in the netting behind the goal. I feel bad for Karlsson and the Senators. He is a special player in the league, and that was disgusting to watch happen last nite, in what was turning out to be a good game. The tone of the game changed pretty quick after the injury.

Wish Karlsson a speedy recovery.
