He must drive goalies crazy with that slow deliberate skate during the shoot out. Totally opposite of Kovalchuk who goes full speed and doesn't even allow the goalie to get ready.

Last nights shoot out was on Marty. He should have stopped at least one of the first 2. Give credit to the leafs coach to put guys out there Marty hasn't seen. Everybody I am sure expected Kessel.

40.8% career don't lie folks. Neither does being tied with guys like Crosby for career shootout goals..

Besides Elias did this, and this will last forever. My favorite shootout moment EVER. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqTflF9JzVk

What wasn't impressive was making a thread about taking one of our best shootout guys out of it. Because of a couple cold streaks. By your logic Kovalchuk should have never been allowed to go in on a breakaway after his gaffe last year, and look how that turned out.

Also, I didn't think the Leafs miss was all that terrible. He tried sneaking it through 5-hole (which Parise and Kovy have done numerous times this season) and hit the pad. End of story. I'm just a fan of limited sample size over-reactions. Which is also why I'm not making a thread right now talking about how terrible Ilya was last night.

I do try to stay away from ridiculous threads. Don't want to encourage bad habits.

Lol, ok. It's not like people actually need to read any NJ_cup thread with a title that's only a players name. usually, not too much actual content in those.

Since we are on shootout topic, what did you guys think of Clarkson being the number 4 shooter the other night? I like Clarkson, but was surprised to see him shoot with 2 points on the line like that. He must have had some nice break away moves in practice.

I like clayrkson in shootouts he is a lot better in breakaway and shootout situations than he is given credit for. However he is going through a major dry spell as well.

Clarkson can get crafty when given the chance. It was interesting to see him after more so for me since it got me thinking, after the big 3, who else can go at it?

Zajac's goal was awesome.
Our top 3 shooters are set in stone. I would probably have Zajac shoot 4th and Henrique 5th.
When Tedenby was with the team, I wanted to see what he would do in the shootout. He had a lot of skill.

Ckatkson had a clutch shootout goal against the caps. I was shocked to see him out there.

I didn't know there were rules to topics

Clarkson has really good hands, and in the few times we've seen him come in on breakaways or 1 on 1's, he's usually pretty impressive. Smart move, IMO. Every since he was in that youngstars game at the allstar game like 4 years ago, I've always thought that he had more offensive potential than we had seen until this year. Besides, he's got the right mentality to be in those pressure situations.

He was 100% for the season (although I think it was 2/2 or 3/3) and in those few shots, he made great moves and looked good. Maybe the coach was thinking since he was in a dry spell, it may jump start him if he scored in the shootout... since he hadnt missed yet this year... although it rarely gets to him....
