Rumors out of Rams park are that his foot injury is more severe that originally expected. Man, this is very disappointing, he is a very intricle part of what we are trying to accomplish in the secondary. :(

This injury looks eerily similar to what happened to C. Long a year ago and for what I am hearing, Gaines may have to have surgery. He got stepped on and the injury didn't appear to be extensive initially but now things are not so good. We will have to wait to see but this one doesn't look good as things proceed.

No worries though. We have ample backups to step in and I don't think we will miss a beat. This means Lamarcus Joyner is going to get more playing time along with Tru and the Imoan Claiborne is looking pretty stout.

Now its Jenkins, Johnson, and Joyner. not sold on this bunch. EJ made the group above avg, now they are just avg unless they all take strides.

Don't count out Imoan Claiborne. Many think he is as good or better than Gaines. He showed a lot of promise on Saturday night.

I hope so retro. These damn injuries to key players every season really frustrates me! It always seems to hold us back from progressing in some way.

Yep, I totally hear you TEB. We really need to change the culture of the team back to what Dick Vermeil established. Snisher are doing a methodical job and we are making progress but there may be other factors that continue to keep the old losing culture in place. Hint: It usually has something to do with the buffonery and douchbaggery at the top.

I hope they have Mathis and Blalock's cell phone numbers on speed dial. We may need at least one of them before season begins. I am not worried about the secondary as of yet, we have plenty of depth and if the front seven can dominate like expected, the injury to Gaines doesn't bother me as much.

I agree. Gaines' injury should be of a lesser consequence in light of all the good players we now have in the secondary. Should be a small bump in the road.

^^THIS!^^

It does matter, the season can take it's toll and this hit on depth may end up being a factor. That said, I agree with RR it is an area of strength so there is a chance, barring further injury, we escape with nothing more than a bump in the road.

not to sound negative, but this always seems to happen to the Rams.

and, unfortunately, they are not a team that can just plug in players ( ala Pats ) and not miss a beat. because they are so young, even the slightest experienced player makes a difference vs a veteran team that can better absorb such a hit.

The official diagnoses of Gaines' injury is he has a LisFranc injury of the foot. To make a long story short, one or more bones of the foot have been dislocated from the Talus bone of the foot, the main bone that forms your heel (along with Calcanus) and allows the tibia and fibula to articulate with your foot. The other bones are ones such as the Calcanus, Navicular, Cuneform, etc and the Tibia and Fibula from the lower leg. It is takes a heavy weight rapidly applied to dislocate those foot bones from the Talus and it would probably hurt like a bitch. It takes surgery to put everything back together and it takes a long convalescence to heal. Just ask C. Long. He had nearly the same injury.

time to see if Joyner can step up and prove that he was worth a second round pick

Yep, Claiborne too. Claiborne is actually playing quite well and may see significant playing time with the first unit if Joyner falters.
