If you continue with human voting, then you will always have issues. That is why I prefer stats based selection based on the same 10 year span of the player being looked at. I am biased with Edgar because I was able to watch him play just about every game in his career. Maybe that isn't bias, and more like appreciation of talent.

I think the problem is Edgar does have the stats just not the sexy stats. Stats like Hits, Homers and RBIs are what people are probably hung up on for a guy that was purely a DH. If he gets to like 3000 hits or 400 homers it likely wouldn't even be an issue but unfortunately he didn't see the Bigs till he was what 26? And its not like that was his fault either because his stats in the minors were good.

Definitely appreciation, not homerism. Edgar was on national TV what maybe 100 times in his career. If he were a Yankee or Red So, the 95 ALDS alone would've put him the hall already.

My thoughts exactly. That's what drives me crazy to hear the bullshit excuses when the reality is they just didn't watch Edgar enough. Understandable because the franchise has been mostly terrible with games starting at 10pm eastern

I get it in a way, he was always overshadowed by Griffey, ARod and Ichiro when they were on national TV but so have other hall of famers. But Edgar is unanimously respected by players, coached and GM's of his day and him not having an over the top personality or an outlet to get exposure to the East Coast writers shouldn't be a reason someone leaves him off. Argue numbers not personality.

I'm unsure what the turnover is each year, but it seems that younger voters seem to favor Edgar getting into the HoF. I have to assume that him getting 70.4% bodes well for his chances last year. I think him being in his final year of eligibility will help him get over that hump next year.
