Bout damn time. Congrats Edgar!

Still though, the flaws in the system are apparent. Ruth, Mantle, Mays, Williams, Griffey: All guys who were left off of ballots. Edgar, the greatest DH of all time had to wait til year 10 to crack the code. And yet, Mariano Rivera, a failed starting pitcher though the greatest closer ever, gets 100% on his first year? That's a joke.

As far as I know, no known user of PEDs has been inducted yet.

Ortiz is getting in first ballot, probably unanimous now that it is ok.

But am I the only one that is kind of butt hurt that Edgar had to wait 10 years because he was a DH but Mo gets the first unanimous HOFer as a closer?

Edgar had to be the one to historically establish the DH as HOF eligible. It took a while because baseball is very conservative*. Now that the gate is opened I have no problem with Ortiz going in soon.






* Took them over 150 years to get to replay and overturning calls.

Not really. Mo's career was as impressive as any who's ever played - and being a DH was only part of the argument against Edgar. If Edgar had 3000 hits and 500 HRs, then it would be a different story.

I will disagree with Mo’s career as being any better than Edgar’s. You have tangible numbers to compare Edgar too, there are no numbers to compare Rivera’s to since there had never been a guy who was a closer for that long. I definitely think he deserves to be in, but I think the cons against him are more than Edgars. That may be a homer in me, but every knock Edgar got against him can be used against Rivera.

Best Mariner by far, 2nd best talent after Griffey. WE all knew Edgar was a future hall of famer while he was still playing and now all the doubters can suck it!
