Possible? He was on the Mitchell report with Pettite but the two were genuine nice guys who didn’t run away from it and act like dicks like Bonds, Clemens, McGwire and Palmerio. Ortiz does deserve to be in the HOF, but my opinion so do all PED users. You can’t erase an entire generation of players because they used substances that I’m betting 90% of ball players from the late 80’s until the mid 2000’s used some type of banned substance.

Ortiz actually wasn't in the Mitchell Report (one of the criticisms with the report was that George Mitchell had a board position with the Red Sox, and no major current Red Sox players were listed in the report). It was a NYTimes report a few years after the Mitchell Report that claimed Ortiz failed a test back in '03 when MLB did their first run of anonymous testing. Nothing's been confirmed however since it was anonymous sources who leaked that.

Quick comparison from last year to this year. Edgar and Mussina missed the calling last year and when all the ballots were counted/included both of these guys drop about 6%. If things continue to hold true this year, as it stands right now a 6% drop from Edgar would land him anywhere between 83-85%. Still well enough for the Hall and the fact that he's continued to gain votes from returning voters is a good sign.

Hmm, stand corrected. I thought him and Pettite were both implicated but both were glossed over because they repented while others were dicks about it or flat out denied their failed tests. Either way, I think it’s fairly obvious Ortiz used PED’s but it doesn’t really take anything away from his career as I’ve stated I don’t care if someone from the late 80’s to early to mid 2000’s was using as it was all but encouraged throughout baseball.

I've never been to Cooperstown, but I might consider going to the induction ceremony for Edgar (fingers crossed).

One of the few benefits of being a high functioning alco- I mean very social person, is that I have friends I can stay with in most major cities so traveling within the country is relatively cheap for me.

Coordinating getting from NYC to Cooperstown sounds like it could be a pain in the ass though. Something I'll give some thought to in the next few months.

I still remember I met him at a charity auction when I was in the 4th grade. When he signed my picture I go "You're my mom's favorite player!" and pointed at her. She said she hadn't been so embarrassed in years.
