Kevin Durant is the second best basketball player walking planet earth right now. He leads the second best team in the NBA. He was second in the MVP voting last year and almost certainly will be again. He was the No. 2 pick in the NBA Draft (behind Greg Oden and his unfortunate knees).
Durant is tired of it. He is fired up.

Durant is on the cover of the new Sports Illustrated that hits newsstands
this week, and he is featured in a profile by SI’s fantastic senior writer Lee Jenkins. In that Durant is open about not liking that No. 2 label (quotes via The Oklahoman).
“I’ve been second my whole life. I was the second best player in high school. I was the second pick in the draft. I’ve been second in the MVP voting three times. I came in second in the finals. I’m tired of being second. I’m not going to settle for that. I’m done with it….
“I’m not taking it easy on [LeBron]. Don’t you know I’m trying to destroy the guy every time I go on the court?”
I love that this has this fire in him. It is that drive that will some day get him all the things he wants.

But sorry Kevin, but you’re going to have to live life as No. 2 a little longer.
There will come a day when the Oklahoma City Thunder will win an NBA crown (if they keep this core together). There very likely will be an MVP or two in Durant’s future. There may well come a day when we acknowledge Durant as the best player in the world (right now I would say he’s the best scorer in the world, just ahead of ‘Melo, but he doesn’t have LeBron’s all around game).

But that year is not this year.

Barring something radical happening, it’s hard to see how the Heat team that beat the Thunder in five games last finals, that beat them twice in the regular season, that is better than they were a year ago is going to lose to the Thunder.

Just know that Durant is not going to stop trying to make it so. He wants what LeBron and Miami have

Durant might consider going on steroids like Lebron. Lebron basically had Durant's body before taking all the roids...

...Nevertheless, durant has won 3 scoring titles. Durant also was the true Mvp last year. His team had a better record than Mia/lebron. And durant beat Lebron across the board statistically (scoring, 3pt shooting, ft shooting, rebounding, block shots,)...There was no reason for Lebron to win Mvp other than the fact that Lebron has an incredible P.R. machine in Nike/Espn that keeps giving Lebron credit he doesn't deserve.

Durant also clearly outplayed Lebron in the finals. Especially in the 4th qtr where Lebron doubled Lebron's scoring. However, Lebron's teammates badly outplayed Durant's teammates, which was the difference. Plus the fact that Lebron got every bullshttt call imaginable from the refs, including the blatant hack on durant at the end of game 2.

Without the bullshit calls from the refs, Okl beats Mia. In fact, Mia doesn't even get past boston, without all the bullshit in game 2 of Bost/mia, where lebron shot 24 fts...

Durant was the mvp last year. And should've been the second finals mvp on a losing team along with Jerry West, since Durant was clearly the best player on the floor.

peace!!1

Have a lot of respect for the young man from UT...but I wish he'd put a few more "We" in place of the "I". NBA is a hard league. Even harder when it's 5-on-1.

This is why I believe he will only excel being the main man in OKC.

Even with age considered, I would still take Lebron (assuming he doesn't leave, a big assumption). Lebron is complete and does not really have any flaws. Durant has no post up game, his defense isn't elite, he isn't an elite passer like Lebron either. What Durant really needs to do is get a post up game so he can post up smaller defenders.

Better player how?

Lebron is the better defender, passer, rebounder, and etc.

The only thing KD is better than LBJ at is shooting

WRONG!!!! Durant is the better rebounder, and defender. When's the last time Durant got lit up for 40 like Lebron does every time he goes up against a good S.F....?

Durant is a better ft shooter, 3pt shooter, scorer, block shots, defender, and way, way, way, better in the clutch. Just look at the finals last year where durant doubled Lebron's scoring in the 4th qtr....

Lebron has better teammates. Durant is a better player.

DEAL WITH IT!!!

Durant is doingi t all the right way. Making HIS team become great. Winning a ring without the aid of superstars on the roster.

With that said, OKC is doing it the right way, they built this team through the Draft and now those young players are paying off.

For someone saying LeBron is on the juice and that he had KD's body type before he got on the juice..I hate LeBron, but this guy isn't on roids. James has always been a solid big guy, unless he is was doing steroids at the age of 14?

OKC was no lock to come out of the West even with rw.

(How long before Durant bolts to a larger market? like Dallas, NY or LA?

well...considering the time that James was making an hour special to announce his talents were heading to South Beach. Durant was quietly signing like a 6 year extension in OKC.

James could have handled his decision to leave Cleveland better, but he admitted he would have done it differently. I don't see the need to smash the guy for it the rest of his life. And if LeBron was such a bad guy then how come the all holy Durant joins him in the offseason for workouts?
