I'll take a wild guess at this one ... Because they play football? No need for wild extrapolation to make a point.
BTW, kickers usually the highest scorers on teams in the long-term, does that not make them players?

No it makes them kickers.

If punters and kickers are football players just like everyone else, why the special rules that only apply to them and no one else?

So you agree with smashing into a punter or kicker? If he is lining up his aim for a kick, he is most surely defenseless.

How else are you supposed to block it?

You can smash into a punter if he has not kicked it yet, But if in motion and the kick is underway, different story. Kickers need for the ball to be set by the holder before hitting him - that takes about 1 second.

Blocking it is more due to a low kick or extraordinary play by the D.

Get rid of the fucking ball!

Oh, and block for him.

If a QB goes outside the pocket and goes for a run he becomes a runner, you can nail him. That's why the slide.

"We" lost because of that penalty.

Although this could be true, most of the time it ain't.
95% of the time there were many other plays that made the difference. It's never one play.

But the rule extends through the entire play for punters and kickers; they're defenseless the whole play.

So the NFL says they can't protect themselves on the field, i.e. they aren't football players.

Quarterbacks are protected as passers, if they leave the pocket and take off running you're free to blast them the same as any other runner.

There are special rules that apply only to QBs as well.

Just making the point that the special rules thing applies to QBs too.

Ok we all get your POV but you understand that from a semantics and purely factual standpoint you're clearly wrong, right ? I mean you can call them whatever you please, but they're football players because the NFL says they're football players. They're members of the team, on the field of play performing their designated role.

So the conclusion is that kickers are snipers, hiding away in the pocket, waiting to shoot someone?
