I'm going state a counter view on the progress Lock demonstrated in the HOF game. First of all - I have to give him props for at least showing an understanding of the footwork needed to be a QB in the NFL while he was out there. That is really good progress. He didn't have any problem taking snaps underneath the center and his bootleg execution was really good. He also obviously - if somewhat slowly - showed the ability to go through his route progressions. In my view - he already got to where Paxton Lynch finished his career with the Broncos.
The Fangio Factor: What cracks me up are the psychological games Fangio plays with his players. In the case of Drew Lock in the first pre-season game - Fangio puts Lock in with the 3rd stringers - calls plays that take a long time to develop and way down field. Fangio wrote out a game situation for Lock that pretty much guaranteed Lock would fail. This is Lock's reminder that he has a lot to learn still - don't sit on your laurels.
Meanwhile Hogan gets the run support of the Oline starters - gets to crank the run game and the short passing play calls. Hogan got the opposite script - than Lock did.
All this is not because they don't like Lock - on the contrary - it is because the do like him. I am reminded of my reluctant stint in the US Army Infantry- the first thing they did there was to tear you down to nothing and then carefully build you back into something more to their liking.
