So, does this put Waddle or smith as a WR option or 1 of the 2 top linebackers as our best option at #7?

Our 2 top needs are WR and LB

Smith/Waddle/Chase fill that and only 2 should be off board at most

Parson or owusu holy hellalong name will almost certainly be there as well for LB

I am all in for Parsons. Loons have a solid offense everywhere but wr, they don't have an acceptable unit on defense. I hope they go all in there.

If Ja'Marr Chase is there at #7, you don't pass up on that so long as Goff stays.

Love me some Devonta Smith or Waddle too but Minny U WR Rashod Bateman down in the late teens is a very good option.

I hope Holmes maneuvers around if the opportunities arise.

There are good options at LB later on but I wouldn't be upset at Parsons pick so long as he doesn't become Jarrad Davis v2.0 because there are no guarantees with any incoming CFB player no matter how great they are in college.

Parsons opted out in 2021 and that gives me great concern. He better become Kuechly or Bobby Wagner (even though the latter was a 2nd round pick - wanted him so bad coming out)

This team needs another edge rusher, a Mike, a Will, a 3-tech, a Safety to pair with Walker, another CB that can play inside or outside and another 0/1 tech.

Plus depth for the defense

(2) WR
(1) RG
(1) RT that can be a swing because Crosby has injury issues
(1) RB to pair with Swift that is between the tackles power and has some receiver/pass pro ability

I will take some serious heat, I know, but what about trading back a few and getting a 2nd then taking Najee Harris. Him and Swift would make a nice 1-2 punch. And our run game is poop!

Javonte Williams just put together a season the likes of which we’ve not seen before. He broke a ridiculous 75 tackles on only 157 attempts. To put into perspective how insane that is, those 75 broken tackles were six more than any other back last season despite him placing only 19th in total rushing attempts. Alabama's Najee Harris had 95 more carries and still broke fewer tackles. Williams' hard running style at 220 pounds should translate nicely.

some fans compare Waddle to Tyreke and he isn't but he's more reliable than Toney, Shi Smith, Eskridge etc

This isn’t the year to be in need of defensive tackle help. Outside of Barmore, there may not be another guy making too much of an impact in Year 1. One guy who could certainly develop into a difference-maker in time, though, is North Carolina State’s Alim McNeil. He’s a 320-pounder who possesses a first-step like a 280-pounder. He played a ton of pure 0-tech for the Wolfpack and continuously disrupted in the run game. McNeil’s 92.1 run-defense grade was the second-highest in the country at the position. While he’s got little in the way of pass-rushing moves, it doesn’t take much to be effective in that regard with his explosiveness.

I like the kid out of Iowa even more than Bama iDL Barmore and I'm a Bama homer but unbiased at the same time. Barmore is pure power and hasn't learned any counter moves yet. He was on fire over the last 5 games or so. He probably has a higher floor than any other iDL.

However, an alternative could be Iowa iDL Daviyon Nixon. either one of the USC iDL Tuafele or Tuipulotu

LB Bolton - Missouri
LB Pete Werner - OSU has played all four LB spots in college
Jabrill Cox - LSU (more Will - LB)

Parsons and Owusu-Koramoah as mentioned by @elguapo are obvious choices

Michigan's WR Nico Collins is a possibility replacement for Golladay (no sense in paying him 17.5M AAV when this team is already in the hole for cap space. They're still two years away before being competitive. It'd be a waste of money right now. jmho - only).

Collins should be available late day 2 in those late comp picks area if not into day 3. Michigan QB Shea Patterson didn't do him any good in 2018 and 2019. He opted out in 2020.

WR Nico Collins, Michigan
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 215
Wing: 79”
Arm: 32 1/2”
Hand: 9 3/8”

Daniel Jeremiah's top 50: 2021 NFL Draft prospect rankings 1.0

26) Zaven Collins, LB

School: Tulsa | Year: Junior (RS)
Collins is an enormous off-ball linebacker. He played outside in Tulsa's 3-3-5 alignment. He has the length and bulk to take on guards and free himself for tackles against the run. He builds speed laterally, displaying tremendous range. He has average short-area quickness, but he is still a dependable tackler in space. He is outstanding in pass coverage, using his instincts to clog throwing lanes. He is more than capable of covering tight ends all over the field. He rushed off the edge on occasion and is good with his hands to defeat tight ends and running backs. You can get a sense of his athleticism if you watch his 96-yard pick-six to defeat Tulane in overtime. Overall, Collins is a unique player because of his size/speed combination and I believe he'll make an immediate impact at the next level.

I think Lions should notnsifn any big contracts. Let Golladay walk and get a 3rd round comp pick next year.

19) Jaelan Phillips, edge rusher

School: Miami | Year: Junior (RS)
Phillips is a tall, explosive and bendy edge rusher. He splits his time between playing with his hand on the ground and standing up on the edge. As a pass rusher, he has an excellent get-off and possesses the ankle flexibility to bend and corner smoothly at the top of his rush. He has an explosive inside counter move and he also uses his length to pop/separate to generate sacks and pressures. He needs to be more consistent using his hands to control blockers against the run. He has speed/burst to quickly close from the back side. There is some concern about Phillips' durability based on his injury history during his UCLA career (he transferred to Miami in 2019), but he has as much talent as any pass rusher in this draft class.

Yep, 100 agree except a caveat to Golladay.

I think they should place the non-exclusive rights franchise tag on which allows him to negoiate with any team and then the Lions can match or except a trade. That tag is open for negotiation as others have been traded for 1st or 2nd round picks.

Get the picks this year (and preferably a 2nd round instead of waiting until next year. There's lots of defensive players the Lions could use in this draft. The NYG were in discussion to trade for Kenny. NYJ are in desperate need of a WR and so are the Colts. Kenny is a proven vet. Take the gamble.

What to know about NFL franchise tag designations

The player can negotiate with other teams. The player's current team has the right to match any offer, or receive two first-round picks as compensation. (the two-1st round picks as compensation has never been enforced. Dee Ford, Jimmy Graham to the Hawks, are two examples).
