is it 5 spots or 6?

at this point i'm incredibly proud of this team and i can't possibly root for them to lost but the thought of a top 3 pic is in a way kinda exciting, but how many teams are eligible for the lottery is it the bottom 5 or 6

At the conclusion of the regular season, the 14 NHL teams not qualifying for the playoffs are entered in a weighted lottery to determine the initial draft picks in the first round, seeded according to regular season standing. The 30th-place team has a 25% chance of winning the lottery, with odds diminishing to a 0.5% chance for the 14th-place team. A single selection from the lottery pool is made, with the winning team improving its draft position by up to four places, and no team dropping more than one place. Therefore, only the 26th through 30th place teams are eligible to receive the first over-all draft pick.[7][8] Consequently, the 30th place team's chance of retaining the first overall pick improves to 48.2%.[2] The order in the remaining rounds is unaffected by the lottery and is based on regular season standings.

That's from wikipedia. Take that for what you will.

Based off the above, you can't more up more than 4 spots, so the top 5 teams all have a chance at first overall apparently.

So if the season ends now we will most likely have a pick between 3 and 6

Yeah, right now it would be highest possible of 2nd, and lowest possible of 7 (can't fall more than 1 spot).

not that it needs to be said but i'd be ecstatic if a guy like larsson, nugent-hopkins, or even to a lesser extent i'd even be happy to get a guy like ryan murphy

It's funny that we have a chance at a top pick and yet still had what most would consider a very respectable season. I'd love for them to go big in this draft. Not sure if anybody is there when we pick that fits the mold, but we desperately need a power forward. Think Zubrus if he could actually hit.

We desperately need good passer. When I am watching Devils games, I see that there are not many nice score opportunities because everybody just shoots into goalie. I don't see many attempts to use redirection of shots or passes across. Goalies easily read Devils offense and therefore we are worst scoring NHL team. What we need is H.Sedin/J.Thornton/M.St.Louis type or quality of player who can make the play and set up his partner forward. Also offensive D would be great to get in the off-season. :argue:

If you want power forward its coutourier all the way and he will probably be available at pick 5 assuming were in that range

If you want passer I think its Ryan Murphy all the way

I wouldn't mind getting a quality passer either (preferably on D). The amount of neutral zone turnovers we have had this year as a result of sloppy/lazy passing are countless. That's what I like about this pick, is we really can take the best player available because there isn't 1 thing in particular we really need.

ryan murphy is really who i'm hoping for.

unless larsson is there by some miracle.

larsson i think is slightly more defensive, but both are puck moving d men.

larsson is a mamoth tho where as murphy is 5'10

Agreed. Big D have better impact and they are scarier for opponent's forwards.

As much as Rafalski was an offensive force, he would get manhandled in his own end too much come the playoffs.

Which is why im saying it can only wrk as long as guys like gelinas urbom etc step up to the plate and make the team iver the next few years.

The other aspect is do we really need another center? Or wing? I really think d is where we must go in this draft

But we don't have a great passer. Doesn't matter D or O - we need one first.

i wanted to see how many times teams won the lotto but didnt finish last and i think 3 or 4 teams actually won it when they werent dead last. one of those times being the hawks taking kane over the flyers vanreimesdyk....wow that would be a sick lineup if they got kane!

i think we get somewhere around 5

i want to touch a little further too on what someone posted above. this wasnt the best season but for half a year we saw some pretty exciting hockey. you could argue even more exciting then some recent playoff years. ontop of that we still get a GREAT draft pick? lets just hope they use philly as an example after their horrible year

Cup, how ya been man? Been a while

That said I really believe this season may be a blessing in disguise to a degree.
We get a great pick and dead weight was removed in guys like langs ect. There was turnover and we saw the emergence of our most highly talented with the most potential group of proxies we've had in years, arguably ever, and the high pick is only going to add to that group as the youth movement continues, but is maybe more talent packed than we once thought.
Not to mention our 3rd round goalie pick, wedgewood had a stand out season. A year ago I would've said our window. To win was closing. Now it looks like a new one may be opening
